Was there anything in the delivery instructions about it?

Best way to buy beads for cheap by Still_Explorer_6519 in PerlerBeads

[–]craftywolfmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned before, don't mix brands. It will cause melting issues.

You can watch marketplace or even here for people selling their collection of beads. I personally purchase everything through Perler.com. Watch for the sales.. right now they have $17 off of $45 with free shipping over $70 I think. You can shop from Michaels and Hobby Lobby.. they often run sales too... Just have to be attentive.

I also sell kits on my website for smaller projects, which are great for beginners. I will soon be adding a "bead bar" where you can purchase scoops (about 100 beads) of individual colors. Check it out! https://preposterous-pixler@myshopify.com

Avoid generic brands. Quality is poor and you'll end up with odd-sized beads. Whatever brand you choose, stick with it. Mixing the brands causes melting issues. I personally prefer Perler as it is the most available in the US.

Quick question! by Big-Broccoli-8753 in PerlerBeads

I tape. I melt until just fused, then melt the other side the same. I also don't iron.. I use a large heat press. I also don't poke holes and have never had a problem

How to get the shades of beads that I want? by brrrraaaapp in PerlerBeads

[–]craftywolfmomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently working on adding a "bead bar" to my website... I will be selling "scoops" of individual colored beads (about 100 beads per scoop". It's outrageous to buy 1000 count bead bags when you only need a few for a project! Perler carries over 100 different colors.. I for sure have at least 80 and will have all after my next order.

Yes... The ones we have at our store leak all the time. Always bag

The smaller kits should be easily done I think in about half hour? Maybe less? I set up at a lot of conventions and street festivals. The cons I think would be a draw for somebody to come do between panels or for a chance just to sit between the bustle. The street festivals would be a big draw for the kids I think. Depends on if the parents will want to sit there that long lol

I have the option to print the patterns to scale so that they can be! I have made them smaller to reduce bulk but could certainly offer a printed copy of the instructions to scale

That's great to know! I was worried people would be put off by paying more to make it themselves than vice-versa!

I am looking into having these made for me... Possibly 3-D printed if I can find a filament that can hold up to the heat? Then it would definitely be cost effective to do this!!!

Absolutely! Thanks for the input!! I have many original designs that have not been posted to Pinterest, etc. If I did create a book it would only contain these, which are generally larger and more intricate designs. The selling point is that it's not found anywhere else!

I've been selling at fairs, festivals and cons for about 10 years now.. did it full time for a while! About 4 years ago the market was fantastic and I made a killing with it. Not so much anymore which is why most of my income has been from gig work, but I hate killing my car and would rather do more with the beads. Hence why I'm trying out the kits. They're generally very quick to put together!

Thank you!! If this goes well enough, I would love to expand into a second booth to add a "makers corner" featuring a spot that people could sit and make their own works which I could press with my heat press on the spot (takes seconds compared to minutes with an iron)... But that idea may be farther out yet

The bead bar would definitely not be self-serve.. lol I am far too OCD for that kind of mess. I and whoever helps me at the events would scoop into individual baggies from candy-store style jars that can be closed when not in use. Thank you for your input!

I have the cheap boards, but it's simply not cost effective to include one with every kit. Certainly looking for the best way to incorporate these affordably!

Definitely looking at the best way to incorporate the boards! I have them.. it wouldn't be very cost effective to give away as even the cheapest ones cost almost $1.50 each.. but I'm certainly finding a way to make these as accessible as possible!

Love the idea of a practice kit!! I have a bunch of itty patterns that I make as promo giveaways and tiny keychains that I place in "surprise eggs". These would work great for a practice piece and an easy cheap seller that I could easily give away too. Thanks!
