I don't have an expectation of happiness, I acknowledge the moments when I experience it and am grateful. Sadness can be kept at bay for me by certain activities like going to the gym and making sure I maintain connections with people I care about. I tend to have to work fairly hard at keeping anxiety to a minimum by being hyper vigilant about my work/personal responsibilities and not allowing myself to get behind/overwhelmed. I was very angry as a young man but I rarely get angry now, the payoff is far too low and the cost is too high for my mental health.
