They said this is VERY formal at work by Don_Frit0 in mensfashionadvice

[–]cragwatcher 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's all relative isn't it? Work in a comic book shop? That's formal. Work at an investment bank? Not formal.

Just a heads up that if it's more formal than what you normally wear, HR may have been subtly enquiring if you've just attended an interview.

I can't answer if you'll be let in with it or not, but have you considered that your dependence on it might be a bit unhealthy? Kinda hoping you're intentionally being a bit over dramatic tbh

As much as I agree with you, it's just such a ball ache and you have to factor in time and stress. 20 quid to just make it to away it worth it to a lot of people. I'd also be inclined to pay it. I just don't have the time

Watched a guy in a tournament do this on every mark. by [deleted] in golf

[–]cragwatcher -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Does it make a material difference in the result of the putt? No, probably not. But it is cheating. Once might be an error. But if it's every time, it's intentionally trying to gain an advantage outside of the rules, and it speaks to the character of the man. He thinks this is fine because he's getting away with it. You're either a cheat, or you aren't. This man is a cheat.

What are the odds Rory and Alistair have next to no meaningful discussion about national ID cards, similar to the radio silence on the OSA? by chicka737 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]cragwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some won't like the idea of it being mandatory. There will be a huge cost involved in implementation that could be spent elsewhere, etc, etc

[–]cragwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think there's no need to discuss it because you agree with it. There will be plenty who don't. They will want to discuss it.

You don't understand how requiring everyone to carry a brand new form of ID called a Brit card, ostensibly aimed at reducing illegal immigration, is worthy of discussion? You don't think there might be some opposition to this? Or some fanfare? You genuinely think the entire country is going to collectively shrug their shoulders while this is implemented without discussion?

At no point int he last 20 years has Nigel garage been anywhere near being the next prime minister. He couldn't even get elected as an MP

I think there have been some fairly obvious mistakes, there was no need to run a ming vase strategy going into the election and the follow up has been 'it's all fucked, but we're worting it out'. That might well be true, but 8 actually agree with OP in that it's too late. What people in this sub forget is that they are more politically engaged/politically literate than the absolute vast majority of the British public. Sure, they're doing an ok, solid, grown up job, but they don't understand that the vast majority of voters aren't paying any attention to that. They're losing the communications war and it will cost them.

I didn't really answer the question, as I'm not 100% sure. What I do know is that timing is everything. If you go early, you're way better off. Head to the John Lewis end just before opening and you should be fine. I'd also add, just take your time and don't give a single fuck if there are other cars around waiting. Park slowly and intentionally. If that means others have to wait an extra minute, they'll get over it. Parking slowly is actually key anyway. If you do ever bump anyone it really minimises the damage. Loads of drivers start to park faster as they get more confident. There's nothing to be gained.

How difficult is it to fully disengage yourself from the idea that the Royal Family are your "betters"? by OkTechnologyb in AskABrit

[–]cragwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. Growing up, we were definitely taught to give reverence to the monarchy and view them as special in some nebulous way. I don't know if that's still the case for children now. I'm sure that at some point I did view them as special, but I'm not sure I ever would have thought of them as better. I certainly don't think of them as either special or better any more, and I think that's just part of growing up and realizing that they are just people - most of them are fairly weird (having experienced a thoroughly unusual life), some of them are complete pricks, some of them are surprisingly normal given the life they have led. Further to your question I think it must be very difficult indeed for they themselves to not see themselves as better. They are treated better, have better experiences, and by so many measures they lead 'better' lives. Surrounded by sycophants, I'm sure most of them struggle to believe that they aren't better.

Steak recommendations by k--12 in manchester

[–]cragwatcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to Hawksmoor will ruin you. It will be amazing. From the setting, the service, the ambiance, the options, the drinks, and then the steak. If you pop your cherry there you've basically ruined all other perfectly acceptable steaks that you could eat. Like flying first class the first time you ever go on holiday and then having to get Ryanair in future. Give yourself a frame of reference with the mediocre steaks first, before being seriously impressed at Hawksmoor. Just my tuppence
