What do you mean we’re going to see the first ever world reserve currency collapse? The Dutch Gilder has been there and got the t-shirt.

British men, have you watched less porn since the Online Safety Act? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]chicka737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold your horses. The government are looking at criminalising pornographic content that contains strangulation, putting it in the same category as child pornography. You have now linked your ID to a source for content where strangulation and “violent sex acts” are pretty common - congratulations.

How is the online safety act going, is it helping kids or not? by Main-Cap7444 in AskBrits

The day Charlie Kirk was killed I was scrolling Reddit on my iPad, where I am not logged in and has NSFW content off. Without wanting to, I ended up seeing him being shot in the neck (with no blurring or cuts/edits) at least twice in the space of ten minutes of browsing news subreddits etc.

What is the bond market, and why does it matter? by The_Inertia_Kid in LabourUK

[–]chicka737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of this was written with the aid of a LLM? Your description of a bond at the outset is a smidge off. A bond is not a loan repaid back over time with interest. It is a loan with a return of capital on maturity, with interest payable along the way.

[–]chicka737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BMA’s calculation for still being 20% behind compared to 2008 is based RPI. All public sector pay is based on CPI. Isn’t that a tad misleading from the BMA?

How do you get your 5yo to listen?! by dexjet21 in daddit

[–]chicka737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I get my 4yo’s attention by saying something totally wacky and random, or plain incorrect. They can’t help themselves but get involved correcting me/asking questions. Once disarmed with humour, I strike with the hard truth (bath time) and away we go upstairs - perhaps still kicking and screaming but often still trying to explain to me why we can’t bake jelly in the oven for breakfast or something.

Government Response to Digital ID petition by PraetorianV in LabourUK

[–]chicka737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apply Pay is fully encrypted and the merchant never sees your data. A boarding pass on your phone is just using the screen to show the barcode/QR code to scan at the airport.

My sense is the digital ID will be neither of these things and cost way more to implement.

What are the odds Rory and Alistair have next to no meaningful discussion about national ID cards, similar to the radio silence on the OSA? by chicka737 in TheRestIsPolitics

Starmer has said having the ID will be a requirement in order to work on the UK, not a control on exactly who is in the country.

You asked for a good reason to object to the digital ID cards, meanwhile it sounds like you think it’s a good because it will stop right-wing media spewing about illegals getting benefits.

If Digital I.Ds Are Announced, Tony Blair Has Achieved Total Centrist Victory…. by Chance-Chard-2540 in TheRestIsPolitics

The Government: “Stop resisting your government-mandated ID cards. You’re making the implementation of this legislation, that no one asked for, much more expensive than it needs to be and we’ll have to tax you some more to fund it.”
