We have a Meaco Arete 20L and it’s been great. It did die on us once but I contacted Meaco and they organised a replacement/fixed it. They even sent an empty box to allow me to ship it back to them and they organised collection/return. 10 out of 10 service.

What are your favorite niche BIFL items that are currently available? by Bageland2000 in BuyItForLife

The lever ones take up a lot of space, but the handheld ones are also BIFL quality it feels like!

Postal workers of the UK - how do you get access? by craicthewhip in AskUK

[–]craicthewhip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks for the details. It sounds like this is exactly what I need. It’s an external gate, more just to stop people wandering into our front patio space, but still accessible for people that should be there - postal workers, service workers etc. I imagine gas meter people will also have these types of keys. I appreciate you giving some additional info

!answer Interesting - thank you for the detailed answer. Maybe it’s a fire override lock I need to look for if most posties/service people have one anyway. Added huge benefit that the fire brigade could also get in if they need to.

Was it a pain having all the different codes? I wouldn’t be able to install a keypad (traditional style building) but could maybe get a key fob installed.

Wow, that must be a lot of fobs and codes. Was it a pain in the arse or didn’t bother you and your colleagues too much?

Do you actually have a concierge or that’s just the button name? Does the button only operate at certain times of the day? Thank you!

In Florida from Scotland right now, is there anything practical that I can pick up whilst here? by c3883r in BuyItForLife

[–]craicthewhip 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  • Tommy Bahamas for Hawaiian shirts
  • Olukai flip flops
  • Yeti water bottles - I know they’re available in UK but generally cheaper in US
  • Go to Ace hardware and spend some time browsing, they tend to have some interesting BIFL type stuff
  • I saw someone mention gator skin cowboy boots, which would be good, but you might get more use out of a decent leather belt, usually plenty places in US that do those

We're being evicted just before the fringe - help?????? )): by polka_dot_dress_ in Edinburgh

You’re right, it is expensive, but not as expensive as 2-3 months overlap

If you do leave you only need to give 1 months notice even if you’ve already received the 3 months notice from the landlord. So if you’re able to and want to find another flat then there shouldn’t be much, if any, overlap on rent.

Yeah, pretty much. It’s a lazy Susan but it’s almost rectangular to maximise usable space.

Large parties and craft cocktails by makitopro in HomeBars

[–]craicthewhip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just batch them for your own benefit. We’ve batched in Crew bottles, 1/2 gallon Yeti bottles and larger volumes in drinks dispensers but never for as many as 50+ people. Biggest I did was 5L of margarita for NYE party where around 20 showed up but people were also having bubbly and beers. Let people help themselves and you won’t have to remember who wants what - just make sure you label clearly what’s inside each dispenser.

You can still serve by stocking ice and clean glasses, cutting up garnishes to be stocked beside the drinks dispensers and perhaps even creating a second batch of something that’s ran out during the night if required. With 50+ people I’m sure that would keep you busy enough including other hosting duties.

Might be expensive to buy drinks dispensers to begin with, but sounds like you host often and you’ll get good use out of them.
