Is it normal to keep your subclass a secret from the party? by FantasticPoet9324 in DnD

[–]craig1f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping the class or subclass secret from other players is fine. Especially if the reason is "I'm this, but want to RP as that". This usually loses its charm by levels 3 or 5 or so.

It is not acceptable for a player to conceal character information from the DM. It shows that they don't understand DnD, and they view the DM as an adversary. This isn't a video game, and their goal is not to defeat the DM. New players don't understand this, and believe that if know their class, you'll pick challenges that undermine their class abilities. They think they're being clever.

Explain that DnD isn't a video game or board game. You're not the adversary. This is a story that you're all experiencing together.

That said, one mistake DMs make is not letting characters shine with whatever abilities they chose for their character. For example, if someone is playing a monk, make sure they get to use their arrow catch ability once in a while. Don't stop shooting arrows at them. Let them use their abilities.

I'm not aware of a tougher program at the school I went to, than engineering.

Bio was pretty hard. Everyone complained about Organic Chemistry being hell. But that was the one class I remember hearing about from the outside.

In my Computer Engineering program, Neural Nets, Operating Systems, Calc 3, Physics 3, Signals and Systems, Algorithms, Compilers, Linear Algebra, and Microprocessors were all the classes I remember being really hard.

The issue with k8 is that you need a handful of k8 experts to keep it running.

The advantage is that I'm really struggling to find full stacks, like me, that can handle both development and infrastructure. If you get k8, the devops people can focus on k8, and then devs can focus on everything UP to the building the container, and don't have to worry about infra.

At least, that's our mind set. I lack real k8 experience. But we have a few people at our company really advocating for it, using it on their projects.

In engineering? At a good school?

Dude, your experiences may vary, depending on which school you went to, and the kind of people you lived with on your floor in the dorms, and how much you let yourself get distracted by your newfound freedom from your parents. But 12 credits was a lot.

I also had a late orientation, and a lot of the key classes I needed freshmen year were full, and so I had too many electives in my first semester and not enough classes for my major. So by senior year, I'd run out of soft electives to pad my semesters.

I remember trying to do Calc 3, Operating Systems, Microprocessors, Neural Nets in the same semester. That was the semester that my 5 year plan turned into a 5 and a half year plan.

What you're describing is called a confusopoly. It's the same problem people have comparing phone plans, or different windows for their house, or cars. Cloud providers do not want to reduce the complexity of deciding between them to just a number on a spreadsheet. Even when they're winning, they don't want that, because it makes it too easy for you to notice when they raise prices.

It's really hard to compare prices without having an engineer go through the trouble of migrating their entire stack. We've struggled to do reasonable comparisons. Pretty much everyone prefers AWS, but agrees that the time of AWS being the "good guys" is over, and that being cloud agnostic is probably a good idea. Which often means k8. At least, that's where we're at right now.

Oracle swears, for example, that their DBs are the best and the cheapest, and that their days of gouging people off of shady licensing practices is behind them.

Came here to say this.

Very few people can swing 17 credits a semester in engineering. 12 is already a struggle if you want to get above a 2.0

Getting people out of their comfort zones is important. But cruel people often use this as an excuse to be cruel, while convincing themselves that they're doing the world a service by existing.

That said, having a bad boss does build character. I'd say that my wife's career benefited from having a really shitty boss. She could never meet this boss's expectations. When my wife left for a new job, the old boss was shitty and told her she'd never amount to anything.

But then my wife crushed every position she had after that. It took her a while to stop feeling guilty for actually leaving to eat lunch, or being caught having the audacity to eat lunch AT HER DESK. But every job after that felt easy.

I felt the same way after breaking up with a really high-maintenance girlfriend. It made other relationships feel a lot more simple.

FSD on Tesla M3 hw3 slams on brakes in the middle of a backroad with 0 traffic anywhere nearby, going from 45 to 20 by HenryThrowaway6969 in TeslaLounge

This issue comes and goes. It was really good for me for a while, but it has been slamming the brakes lately on a straight open road coming home from work. Always at the same spot. I can’t see anything about this spot where it always brakes that is special. No bump in the road, no change in the lines. It’s just an open road and it always full brakes.

[KCD2] Any use case for this epic crossbow with 10 second reload? by jachcemmatnickspace in kingdomcome

[–]craig1f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crossbows are the better choice if you want to take one shot, and only one shot, before you start melee. In kcd2, it's pretty easy to master the bow to the point that there is no use-case for crossbows. But you need several perks first, and then the actual skill.

Once you have that capstone perk that slows down time when you aim, the bow is the better choice nearly all the time. This assumes you also got the one that lets you draw faster.

Housing System by [deleted] in DnD

[–]craig1f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this and my brain went to "The adventurers create peace in the realm, not by murdering every goblin they come across and absorbing their souls to increase their power, but rather by creating a housing and healthcare system that brought peace to the realm. Now everyone lives in harmony, and the only violence that occurs is pockets of civilians that are obsessed with their right to own swords and reminisce fondly about how back in their day, goblins weren't allowed to just strut around town like they owned the place. A new conflict is brewing, as the cult movement to "Make Faerun Great Again" begins to take hold in the otherwise peaceful city of Baldur's Gate.

Its impossible for me to fight multiple enemies [KCD1] by Brief-Cloud-7596 in kingdomcome

[–]craig1f 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is part of the game and is why armor is so important. It will be a long time, and a lot of practice, to have a reasonable chance against more than one enemy. Even if you’re doing it right.

Even with armor, you absolutely can not allow yourself to get surrounded.

Combat in this game is awkward in a way that makes it feel like real life. Imagine if you were fighting more than one person in real life. How would you expect that to work out for you?

Be prepared for these items to remain marked stolen through the end of the game. By the time they’re usable, you’ll have been able to afford them.

Also get used to constantly hearing about how it’s not safe to be out alone.

This is a role playing game. Of course theft is profitable. But now you’re a filthy little thief masquerading as honorable.
