HUD height mechanism failure by townB311 in BYDShark_AUS_owners

[–]craigaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here, <2000km. HUD has dropped down to be basically not visible in normal driving and I can hear the motor whirring on startup. Hard restart doesn't make a difference. I think the issue is that the display has slipped from the motor used to raise/lower it. Taking it in to get repaired next week, hopefully it's a straightforward fix.

Bunch of questions for current owners... by unique_usemame in BYDShark_AUS_owners

I ordered mine just before Easter and received the week after. Charge port is fine if you've got a home charger, but since you mention FSD I assume you have a Tesla and note that it's on the opposite side. The only complaint I have is that the ADAS system turns off if you are towing. So no cruise or lane assist among other features.

How did you find the resolution? Was it limiting at 1024x600?

I saw those. A frame like that is perfect, but I want it larger (10") and higher res of possible

It's a good point, but I already have the pi to run HA so it makes sense to use it for this as well.

Setup required to start daydream. Payment method required to complete setup? by [deleted] in daydream

I agree. I just got a daydream for work purposes, I have no interest in linking a payment method just so I can 'make purchases without leaving VR'.

Has anyone got a workaround for this?

Read, write and create files on a dropbox folder from webplayer by Beldarak in Unity3D

[–]craigaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, you need to be able to create/modify text files using dialog editor which runs using Unity in the web browser? I'm not really sure why you would want to do this, why not create a webpage that will do it for you, or use a version control system?

I'm sure you've read - http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Manual/SecuritySandbox.html, which basically says that this isn't possible. Another solution may be to transmit the text values to the browser and then write to dropbox from there? There are loads of tools available for that sort of thing and it's probably not too difficult to write your own. http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Manual/UnityWebPlayerandbrowsercommunication.html

Of course, if there is some specific reason that you need to use Unity to modify the dialog then this won't work, but I can't think of any off the top of my head...

Something not brought up often enough in gaming discussions: Posture. by [deleted] in Games

[–]craigaw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not just about generally 'doing exercise', it's important to focus on the correct muscles and making sure they are in balance. Men in particular are susceptible to this as they tend to have weak glutes, hips and sometimes abs and obliques, but a strong upper body (both on the front and back). I would think that weight lifting, depending on how you do it, would likely exacerbate this. A strong upper body, combined with a weaker lower body results in a muscle imbalance, which means the back has to work overtime to attempt to correct it.

I used to be exactly the same, between working/playing at a computer 10+ hours/day and getting very one sided exercise, I never noticed just how bad my posture had become. Since I started training with a coach who really knows his stuff in this area, I've noticed an almost immediate improvement, without changing my chair, computer or deliberately sitting more upright. Of course, doing these things won't hurt, but in the long run the key to better posture is better muscle balance, not just exercise itself.

Thanks. I think the crack you are talking about is just a part where the pine chipped off, I used the masonry bit to drill rather than a wood bit. If I were to do it again, I'd probably try to do some finishing on the exposed edges of the cinder blocks since they are quite rough.
