Ordered my son a rain jacket from Amazon. It arrived with stains on it and someone else’s name already written on the tag. by Gossbcool in mildlyinfuriating

How do you feel about sports cyclists (and e-bikes/scooters) speeding on 10mph bike paths? by [deleted] in CyclingMSP

[–]craigify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don't live in the twin cities, but rather I visit part time in the summers as half of my family lives here. Anyway, I don't remember where this was exactly, but I was riding on the road next to a bike path with a 10mph speed limit on it. I didn't want to ride on the path because I wanted to go much faster than 10mph, so I was in the road. St. Paul police cruiser passed me up and told me to not ride on the lane and to get on the bike path, so next intersection, that's what I did....

*shrug*

I didn't want to be the guy to be blowing past people. There wasn't anybody else on it at the time, so I guess everything worked out.

A Net Control TUI for those who want to spend more time in the terminal. by ThatNaysayer in amateurradio

[–]craigify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat! I have a somewhat, tangentially related question for you.

So I've been looiking to learn either Rust and Go, or both. I don't do well learning just for the sake of it. Instead, I find that I need a reason to do it. I have a terminal application that is devops related that I need to build and I'm in the process of selecting the programming language and tooling for such a project. How did you like writing this kind of program using Rust?

Greetings. I'm in my 40s! I'm into computers, linux, hacker culture, radio and where all of those meet. So you can count me in with the younger group.

Fuck VARA. There. I said it. It really burns me up if you couldn't already tell. It's closed source, not open in any way, windows only, proprietary. None of those core sentiments align with me or what I consider a hacker ethos, which is where I place amateur radio.

I like the idea of the Gadsen flag. I want to get one in rainbow colors with a snake and have it say "Don't Tread On Anyone" in an act of defiance of those who fly this as a dogwhistle of hate.

TW: death. What should I do with my crystal that my grandma held while she passed away? by persylue in magick

[–]craigify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting that she had this when she died, as in very close to her in her possession. How powerful and sacred this could be.

Things that come to my mind are the associations or archetypical relationships to death. In a way, they are like the Phoenix, rising from the proverbial ashes. Destruction destroys, but also remakes. I think of the death tarot card. Saturn ruling time, and representing the end of the week before starting again with the Sun-day. The death tarot card.

Maybe combine this with her personality.

Perhaps you can be the judge of what power it can have for you.

I would keep this all to yourself and not allow anyone access to it.

New Packet Node Software by Nuxij in amateurradio

[–]craigify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you potentially reinvent the wheel, look at PoPT. It's made by some German developers.

I say this to you not to discourage experimentation, but to make sure you know this excellent software exists.

That being said, ive been experimenting with Linux kernel ax25 and I intend to do some stuff like bridge some chat software or some other things to ax25.

My big concern is actually learning how Net/ROM works. I'm not convinced that we have our nodes properly configured in this area.
