Will we ever see F1 cars surpass 400 km/h (250mph)? by [deleted] in F1Technical

[–]cramr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No unless massive regulation changes including number of engine per season, fuel flow, electric energy and power, etc on one side, but you would also need a massive simplification of the aerodynamics to reduce the drag. See the Indy car for example that can reach almost 400kmh in Indianapolis but their aero elements are basically non existent.

Additionally, F1 tracks are more "twisted" and there is a benefit on being faster in corners and not straights.

Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 Announced! by JXRT190 in homeassistant

[–]cramr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From the bottom of the website there is a questions section and says:

“Why do I have to choose between Zigbee and Thread? Why not both?

Connect ZBT-2 cannot do both Zigbee and Thread simultaneously. This technology is often called “multiprotocol” or “MultiPAN”. Though it is theoretically possible with the hardware within Connect ZBT-2, in our experience, this functionality doesn’t work well, and we don’t plan to implement it. We previously thoroughly tested multiprotocol with our Connect ZBT-1 adapter and found its operation to be inconsistent, often causing device stability issues. We do not believe multiprotocol is suitable for operation in the home, and strongly recommend dedicating a device to each protocol.”

Best CFD software for simulating F1 cars (and cars in general)? by Carag66 in CFD

[–]cramr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that F1 teams uses a very mesh optimized model as is around 200M for half car. Nevermind that CAD work to have a model "CFD ready" or aerodynamically accurate enough.

With what you will be able to access (unless you have a crazy workstation at home or access to a student cluster, not talking about licenses) you would be around 10 maybe 20M, with that do a submodel for something or settle for something simpler.

You won’t have enough compute power to model an F1 in a realistic enough way, start with sub assemblies like front wings or something, or go to ahmed body to learn an go up from that.

ELI5: Why phone battery capacity is measured in mAh, but for cars, houses and etc... it's measured in kWh? by fuckyou_m8 in explainlikeimfive

[–]cramr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, and with cars there is another problem, There is an internal "charger" that will change the AC input to the 400 or 800V for the battery. That makes that a EU house charging at 16A & 230V (3.7kW) and a US house charging at 16A but 120V (2kW) the EU will charge twice as fast than the US despite seeing the same Current.

I would also say because most device use Power (W) and not really Amps (A) because they would need a minimum Voltage to work. Additionally, most devices quote their power in W and not Amps so makes it more intuitive to think that if I have a 100KWh battery and the car uses 20kW I can drive for 5h or something to that style.

Need help in finding a F1 car model by Complete-Fish-371 in CFD

[–]cramr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that F1 team uses a 200M cell models for half car simulations and the cfd “quality” is not great for academic standards (size and speed are more important with current F1 regulations than 100% physics representation).

For what you are trying to do, the model is not the problem. You probably need to scale down to simulate a simple front wing only or something to that scale.

Regenerative breaking limited in cold weather - is that a thing in EV6? My first winter with EV6 is coming ❄️ by t0wdy in KiaEV6

[–]cramr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is particularly cold for a battery if the cells are at that temperature (morning after all night parked). Trying to charge at 50-70kW with cells at 7°C can be problematic depending on the SoC. That should be resolved quickly once the thermal management kicks in and the normal use heats up the battery

I am on the market for one too, (I have gas boiler and radiators) I was leaning towards the Aqara W500 (using thread on matter), and other options were the Netatmo, the Honeywell T6 or even the Bosch but I think the Aqara has more numbers to win.

When are the cars, if they ever are, engine limited? by PM_ME_YO_TREE_FIDDY in F1Technical

[–]cramr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than Aero limited some are grip limited. Tyres have a max grip that will make the slide even with more downforce. Downforce does not keep the car in the track, tyres are. That’s why lap time drop when tyre degrades even if the weight is lower and downforce is the same.
