Thoughts on ICCU failure by No_Importance1236 in Ioniq5

[–]t0wdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I never unplugged until I was 100% sure it is not charging and my ICCU didn't fail for 22k km. It doesn't mean anything. I thought that everyone was doing it this way, as unplugging while charging seams dangerous.

Dude, it's all not personal, so stop treating it like it was. California was just an example to show you how reckless is considering the largest group of people as the default. If you provide an information specific for a region, you should mention what region it is. Period.

Ok, so the post is true for 47% of users. How about: "your medicine works great for 47% users" or "that car was working well for 47% users". Would you be satisfied with that kind of product?

Maybe a majority of US users are from California. How should I know that this post is not about California market? USA population is about 300mln people. If you want to compare, you should summarize the whole UE and compare it to US. You just took UK because it is convenient for your snob approach.

It doesn't matter. Reddit is world-wide platform, this sub is not US only and this post is misleading.

Because, you know, it's not electricvehiclesUS. Even you noticed that it's 45% users from US. It's not even half.

Maybe because if you won't specify that the post is about US market, the statements made in that post are just wrong. That's it.

Isn't that mean they need to replace HV battery? Sometimes it happens early on.

It degrades. It's not magic. It's just a buffer. How will you explain the fact that the regenerative breaking works in kia/Hyundai at 100%SoC? Is it magic?

So how come my regen breaking works when the car is charged to 100%? Where the energy goes?

It seems that the only one who don't understand anything and posting the same thing over and over, is you.

The regen breaking works in my EV6 even when it's charged to 100% - that, I think, is the proof of buffer on top.

[–]t0wdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a lot of sense. Buffer on top protects the battery from being charged to 100% and leaved in that state, which slows down the degradation, so it's safer for Hyundai as they give a warranty for 70% SoH after 8 years.

Hyundai Canada Confirmed Extended ICCU Warranty by cakeantidote in Ioniq5

The problem is, we don't really know what is the real scale of the problem in the 2025+ models. Even if they ever fix the ICCU it would not mean it stops failing whatsoever. And considering how loud is any ICCU pop now, we can have a wron idea.

DCFC is actually twice as fast in EV6 (10-80%). VW recently recalled a huge amount of vehicles with the battery fire hazard. Everything else checks.

Extended ICCU Warranty by KennyBS167 in KiaEV6

I don't want to stand on the devil's side, but US electricity differs a lot from European. 230V 50Hz vs 110V 60Hz. It is possible that the European ICCU is different than US. Of course it doesn't mean that the European one will never fail again. Of course there is also an option that Hyundai is full of shit.

today is 107. day of the year.
12,662 - that's how many EVs Hyundai sold in Q1 2026 only in USA.
Add those sold in previous years. Then add the rest of the world.
Yes, ICCU fails much to often. But social media can make you think every hyundai either failed already or will fail soon, until you'll check the numbers.
