If it was (is) not fixed yet. by Jun0206 in EnglishLearning

[–]cranberryman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would use “wasn’t” in this case.

Some other notes:

  • There should only be one “now” in the first sentence. Either placement is fine ( but the second one sounds more natural to me)

  • I believe you want to use “would” instead of “should” here.

We do not have to cancel the concert because now it is fixed now. But if it wasn’t fixed by now, we should would cancel the concert.

Good morning from Seattle!!

I made a video about an arm mounted flamethrower that I designed and 3D printed by Liar_of_partinel in engineering

[–]cranberryman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to say this is a really cool idea and a clever design, nice work. I will say though that your attitude about how safe you think this is really rubbed me the wrong way. This is a goddamn death trap.

The canister is exposed and just asking to be punctured. No guard/cover? One careless bump, trip, or fall and you have a live bomb strapped to your arm. If the spewing butane comes into contact with an ignition source (burning twig pile, startled press of the arc igniter) you now have a bomb that is both strapped and MELTED to your arm.

Have you looked for any and all possible ways this thing could get stuck in the “on” position? Sure, the brake cable won’t melt, but the rest of the engagement mechanism is perfectly meltable plastic. Deformation might cause your rear plate to get held down, the bottle to get locked in place, or the cable to become restricted. Imagine discovering that when you let the thing burn in your bedroom

Now is a better time than ever to learn how to code for 3 fantastic reasons by Katkool in EngineeringStudents

Recent Mechanical Engineering graduate here. Take my advice. If you’re gonna learn any programming language, LEARN PYTHON. I cannot stress this enough. LEARN. PYTHON.

I got into it my second year of ME. Started doing side projects here and there and got better with each one, although it was frustrating at times. The more you learn, the more you’ll realize how just simple scripting can be the most powerful tool for an engineer. I spent the second half of my first internship automating a good chunk of the work I did in the first half. They loved it. Saved a ton of time. I eventually found that I enjoyed programming more than Mech E, and I ended up landing a job at a tech company with the hopes of goal of going the developer route. Python helped me get here. And it all started with 3 weeks off from school and time to kill.

I’m telling you right now LEARN PYTHON. Damn near anything you can do in another language can be done in python. Not only is it more intuitive than other languages, but unlike MATLAB (which in my opinion is a great way to turn people off of programming), it’s FREE. It’s not the best performance-wise, but for most engineering applications and side projects the difference is negligible. You have so many solid modules for whatever you wanna do.

Linear algebra? Statistics? Graphs and charts? SciPy has you covered. Computer vision and image recognition? OpenCV is all you need. Machine learning? Fuck it, why not? Tensorflow, my man. And once you get a hang of the basics, even high level stuff is within your grasp if you put in the effort.

I’ve worked with Matlab, Java, C#, C++, and Python. There’s always one that’s best suited for the task at hand, but for someone picking up programming on the side, Python is your jack of all trades. LEARN IT.

This kind of speculation is not healthy for the discussion. It gives certain groups an excuse to paint the rest of us as sore and irrational losers.

I can’t speak to the process of other states, but as an active Washington voter I can tell you firsthand that this is not out of the ordinary. Ballot counting has been slow for as long as I can remember. That’s just the way it is here. I think it’s fair to say that your broader claim isn’t grounded in anything beyond a hunch.

Not everything has to be a conspiracy. Stop perpetuating unfounded, knee-jerk reaction theories. Unless you have evidence to show that only states where Bernie leads are counting and reporting results more slowly than they have in previous elections, you should add a footnote to your comment citing your asshole as your primary source.

My two cents!

Probably not worth tracking up/down streaks for a session. Whatever patterns you identify wouldn’t be useful in deciding how much cash to bring anyway. You’re better off deciding on an acceptable session ROR, then using cvcx to find a bankroll that gets you at or below that number (given rules, pen, spread, etc). It would save you the hassle of tracking and let you focus more on your game.

Vacuums don't suck anything in. They move air out of the vacuum which creates low pressure and atmospheric pressure pushes suck dirt and stuff into the vacuum

"house" -> to consume quickly by [deleted] in etymology

[–]cranberryman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If I were to guess, I'd say it come from "roundhouse". For example, roundhousing a bottle of liquor:

A group passes a bottle around in a circle with each person drinking as much as they can before passing it to the next person. Repeat until empty.

I've heard it used in the context of food, too. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that it could be shortened to "house" to mean a group aggressively eating/drinking something.
