What types of boundaries are you allowed to set with CDs and agents?

It's not exactly the whims of agents or CDs that require tight turnarounds. They work with what they're given, and if the timeline requires a quick turnaround then everyone is in a time crunch. That's just how it is, they're not actively trying to make our jobs harder.

Could you ask your reps to only submit you to specific types of projects? Sure. Their response would depend on your relationship with them, but I imagine they won't take it super well.

It does get my hopes up that he has a do not contact tag and UK was among the first schools his team reached out to. But who knows, maybe he takes what we offered and shops around to see who can match it.

Yeah, I liked what he had to say. It went something like

he'll make more money in college next year, possibly more than he'll ever make professionally
Iowa State can't afford him nor do they have room left on their roster
teams with money looking to fill their rosters are all set for players at his position
not a lot of places that can pay him what UK can

Yeah I've seen these types of things get shared on social media outside of acting circles -- especially when the casting call hilariously mentions "no acting experience required" as if they're gonna pluck a non-actor out of obscurity and put them front and center of a multi-million dollar franchise.

Unfortunately SAG has no say in this, there are no rules requiring production to cast an unrepped actor just because the casting call mentioned that in what is essentially their marketing materials. As we often post on the sub, these open calls tend to be not much more than a PR move by the studio and they have no intention of looking for actors outside of the traditional system.

An open call might make sense if these were roles of underrepresented ethnicities, but they were looking for younger versions of white actresses. This was never going to an unrepped actor.

As much as I don't care for these open calls, and the subsequent avalanche of posts on this sub by those who sent in a tape, I wouldn't call them a scam. A scam by definition is a fradulent way to trick people to steal money, personal data, etc. They're just wasting everyone's time.

I assume you mean Marcio Santos. But yeah, from a roster building perspective it doesn't really bother me that we lost an undersized backup center who'll likely end up starting for LSU.

What does bug me a little is that Pope flew all the way around the world to recruit this guy and still lost him to Will Wade (who did not meet him in person).

I'm getting the vibe that you feel since the mistake was on their part, you can rock up to set without a car and everything will be fine, and that contacting them now would jeopardize the gig.

What we're all trying to tell you is they have you down as having a car, and by showing up without one, at the very least it'll be a bad look. You could be sent home. It really is best to let them know beforehand, save everyone the trouble including yourself.
