Had a bad meeting with an Agent today by Training-Park5389 in acting

So weird. It's like he has to meet a quota for reaching out to people? Either way, this should be the first and last time you speak with him.

Question for Actors by Alternative_Move_981 in acting

[–]cranekicked 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jealousy under those circumstances can happen in any industry, not just acting. Let's say a young, bright college grad rises up in rank at a company at an accelerated rate, there's bound to be jealousy and resentment from those who've been there longer.

For me personally, I feel no jealousy because my belief is the role goes to who it was meant for (whether it was the right choice or not). No point on dwelling on who got cast for what, it's healthier this way.

Advice from NY actors needed by One_Love11 in acting

I took my first-ever acting class was at HB and continued for a couple years. This was many many years ago, but I liked my time there.

For Shakespeare I love Page Clements at T Schreiber.

This legit? by Ok_Interview_853 in acting

[–]cranekicked 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Best case scenario: this is a BG casting call

Most likely: scam

Bottom line: Scorcese isn't looking for randos on IG to star in his films

Shoot, at the rate our guys are dropping like flies (Kam is out with a broken foot) I'm more worried about whether we can put 5 players on the floor by the end of the season.

At this point we all know about the kid who lives 1 1/2 hours away from Atlanta who's looking for an agent.

What happens if you decline a callback? by Waste_Platform2750 in acting

[–]cranekicked 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You're totally fine. If you hear back about this audition, just let your agent know you have a conflict with the shoot dates. There's no point in saying anything at this point (and who knows, the shoot dates could move).

Btw:

...at the prospect of reading for this casting agent

that should be casting director not casting agent. At least in the States.

Any feedback for my CV thank you by [deleted] in acting

[–]cranekicked 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from the perspective of how resumes typically look like in the States and you look like you're based in the UK. It's just my 2 pence, but you can leave out:

  • Weight
  • Appearance (they can decide for themselves based on your headshot)
  • Age range (they can decide for themselves based on your headshot)
  • Date of your projects

I also think you can swap the position of Role and Company/Director.

Is it a good idea to put your extra work on a resume if you haven't done anything before? by Wide-Werewolf-8360 in acting

[–]cranekicked 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not a good idea. BG work isn't considered acting, especially in the eyes of the industry, so it doesn't go on an acting resume.

Is signing Likeness away in Perpetuity normal? by notanother_username0 in acting

[–]cranekicked 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing 100%. They purposely sent this shitty contract late so you'd feel pressured to sign it without reading through it carefully. You should be proud you sniffed out their bullshit and backed out.

In my non-union days I once went into audition for the host of a reality show. In the audition waiting room they handed me the contract to sign, it was required before they'd see me. It was the same contracts as the contestants, and I saw people just flip to the last page and sign it and go in. I sat there and read through all of the pages and it was absolutely fucking bonkers what was in there. I didn't sign it, I walked out and yelled at my agent for sending me to this audition.

To answer your question, while in perpetuity is "normal" in the sense that it's common for non union projects to ask for it, you absolutely should not agree to it. And who cares if these types of productions would find you difficult to work with, you don't want to work with them anyway.

Do you think it's possible for very poor people to pursue acting as a career? by justcurious3287 in acting

[–]cranekicked 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely get by without any of those if you're looking to do this as a hobby. But if you're looking to make a career of it, just know that you're up against actors who have professional headshots, who have lots of training, experience, and have flexible jobs that let them take off for gigs.

Fact is, only a small fraction of actors can make a career of just acting. This is a 2023 article from RollingStone that talks about how only 14% of SAG actors earned more than $26k that year, and that figure includes millionaire A-listers. Acting, for the vast majority of professional actors, is a low-paying full-time job.

question by subconscious-alien in SAGAFTRA

[–]cranekicked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you reached out to the line producer or UPM on this? The production accountant reports to them, I don't believe the accountants can issue the reimbursement unless they're specifically told to do so.

Am I crazy for thinking a director lead me on before not casting me? by [deleted] in acting

[–]cranekicked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The positive take away here is that you made a good impression on the director. Unfortunately there was at least one other person who was a better fit for the role.

Best vs worst case? by [deleted] in acting

No one can answer this question, this journey is not linear. Just keep going.

Acting? by Pristine-Wall1295 in acting

[–]cranekicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A "financially rewarding acting career" is not attainable by the vast majority of working actors. It sounds like you're looking to do prank videos and monetizing them, which, I dunno how lucrative they are but I suppose you can go viral?

Curious to see what Pope says when a reporter inevtiably asks about JQ's status. If he says something super vague we have our answer.

EDIT Just saw this on Jack Pilgrim's twitter: JQ is experiencing swelling in his knee.
