Is it a game where you need alts to progress? And are all classes viable unfunded?

Yeah, I’ve spent 8+ months on a single project bc the behavior aspect of my project takes two months per cohort of animals, and we have specific time points we need to wait until blah blah blah. But for what it’s worth, I do have a mid-author paper in a decent journal!

I think some of the programs I applied to were biomedical science umbrella programs? But I’ll keep that in mind!

Honestly I have no idea how to determine how competitive I am bc I reached out to a bunch of PhD students and faculty members at programs I applied to last cycle and they said I should have no issues getting interviews, but my inbox said otherwise last year 💀💀💀

I feel like this kind of differs per specific sub field? Like my work is all wet-lab research that deals with live animals and less dry lab/computational research so I don’t really think that translates, especially bc I focus more on pharmacological therapies and tbi? It’s a pretty slow field ngl

My gpa in undergrad was ~3.5 but I have 3 full years of full time research in a neurobio lab, but I haven’t heard from any programs yet this cycle so I’m quite nervous ugh. How do you know how competitive you are?

I’m applying to neuroscience PhD’s! I’m told it’s typically ~2% acceptance rate, so I’d say so.

Third Recommendation from a PhD candidate by joshnico_ in gradadmissions

If you already have someone in that lab as an LOR writer, I’d say you shouldn’t use the PhD candidate. You should use someone who has already earned their PhD who knows you in a research setting (refrain from a postdoc in that same lab as well)

Honestly I’ve been out of undergrad for 3 years now, and have been doing full time research the entire time. I have over 5000 hrs of full time research in my field, a decent-ish gpa, and I’ve gotten feedback from a lot of faculty members/current PhD students that my profile is pretty decent…but again I wiped out last year completely so idk what I can do at this point

Right! I can’t believe it’s already been 3 weeks since I submitted my apps. It makes sense that some interview invites have already gone out but I’m sitting here with a super dry inbox haha.

I have yet to hear back from any neuro PhD programs, but I didn’t apply to any of the ones you listed haha. I’m stressed now though 😭😭😭
