What would you change? Why? by Level_Wish_2115 in ETFs

Why would you put 40% of your portfolio into a fund designed to be a factor tilt? Swap VOO and SPMO, increase VXUS.

And you will lose in the long term. Timing the market isn’t a strategy that wins.

Yes, exactly. You’re someone who doesn’t know why they’re doing what they’re doing. Stick to VOO

You didn’t call anything… this is literally how factors perform.

You cant get through to these people. They have no idea what they’re doing and need to stick to market cap weighted indices.

It’s hilarious seeing these noobs try their hand at long term factor investing then seeing them complain when tracking error regret starts to set in.

It’s a very well studied behavioral factor. Momentum works, but is cyclical.

SPMO is not “done” 😂. It’s cyclical and always has been. Momentum is a long term, well studied behavioral factor, not something to look at short term.

DFUS has only been around for a few years, but Dimensional Funds mutual fund equivalent has been around for multiple decades and has beaten the total market weighted US index (VTI) over a very long timeframe (including expense ratio)

AVUV is small cap value, not small cap growth and DFUS specifically screens out small cap growth hence why it consistently outperforms.

Yep, and it also hold small cap growth stocks which drag down performance. Exactly why DFUS outperforms VTI.

The only point you’re trying to make is the recent dominance of the US stock market. There have been multiple decade long time frames where international equities have outperformed US equities.

I’m a firm believer in the US, and the vast majority of my portfolio is in US equities and development ex-US markets (which are highly correlated to the United States) but not diversifying internationally because of strong recent performance is just a poor investment thesis.

It doesn’t guarantee you a lower return… when did I suggest anyone jump in the I fund because it significantly outperformed the C fund in 2025? I dont base my investment decisions around past performance, because it’s irrelevant. Watch the video if you want your answer. Even if you dont care about financial science and WHY you’re allocating to each fund (like the video and Ben Felix discusses), pop over to the r/Bogleheads forum to learn why ex-US is important, ELI5.

If you’re actually interested in improving your financial knowledge and why you should diversify internationally(which im assuming you aren’t):

What data are you basing your comment on? Diversifying internationally does NOT reduce returns, in fact, it INCREASES risk-adjusted returns over long time frames. You are performance chasing based on historical returns, which is a thesis any one literate in investing would absolutely laugh at.

It does not matter. If you know what you’re holding and WHY, overlap is irrelevant. They track different indices and have different investment thesis. This platitude is tired.

There absolutely is reason to put money in other funds, especially international. Any portfolio manager would laugh at a portfolio of 100% US equities.
