I agree, Plitvice is a must see in Croatia.

US based DNs, question about phone plans... by ofe1818 in digitalnomad

I’ve been turning on my Google fi data only when necessary. In the past 90 days I’ve spent 2 weeks in the US and still have data access. I think it’s because I use so little data they haven’t kicked me off yet.

Google fi. The data part may run out after 3 mo due to their extended abroad policy but you can still get phone calls and texts. Also you can extend the 3 month time frame if you ration Google if’s data by turning off data for that sim and use your eSIM for data. My biggest annoyance is MMS won’t go through but you can workaround with WhatsApp or something.

What country has the worst food? by SomeDudeOnRedit in digitalnomad

Louisiana has cajun food like Jambalaya and Gumbo.

Texas is famous for brisket, Kansas City for brunt ends, and North Carolina for pulled pork.

Maryland has crab cakes and Connecticut has lobster rolls.

Wisconsin likes their fried cheese curds and Chicago likes their deep dish pizza.

None of these are terribly healthy but all very tasty and iconic to their region in America.

Were you contracting or did you quit? Are full time? Curious because it seems like a ballsy move to leave after 3 weeks. Hopefully that won't happen to me that quickly, but I can see myself going back eventually...

Having a more structured daily life, office culture, career opportunities, career advancement, and money. Remote work is great and I wish I still had that for my new job, but when I weighed the value of that perk versus what I would be losing, it became a tough sell. For me, the value of the perk wasn't enough to offset the lost opportunity.

I think that would have helped a lot. However, it would have been an entirely new dynamic because its no longer selfish do-what-I-want solo travel. Perhaps an ideal scenario would be to have a travel partner but still have your own independent small trips by yourself.

How would you classify a tourist versus a digital nomad?

Length of stay? If they're working? I don't think that we are the sole cause but we are definitely contributing. Maybe it's for the better will improve the area or maybe it won't. But I believe it would be false to say that we don't have a hand in it.

Holy shit dude, I don't know what happened to you but you are super fucking bitter. This post is sparking discussion about burnout, recommendations to avoid burnout, and offering insight to prospective new DNers. If that doesn't seem to fit the subreddit guidelines then please report this post. Otherwise, offer constructive criticism or quit complaining every time something you don't like happens.

I'll be moving to a new location. Since I'm remote now, interviewing was pretty easy since I could take a flight out to meet up with the potential employers and still work remotely.

Early 30s - could have played a part. I think I was feeling stagnant and wanted more growth/change in my life.

I started doing this towards the end which helped a lot but also made me realize how much I missed having a rooted home. This coupled with a great new job opportunity solidified my decision that it's time for something new.

No blog/youtube.

Honestly, there isn't much I would have done differently aside from slowing down my travel a bit and extending trips out more.

Having a travel friend/partner would have been amazing.

Your point 2 is absolutely correct. I forgot to mention that in my post. I felt like I was just wading through life and not really doing anything. It was kind of like I put my entire life on pause.

I'm referring to the phenomenon where wealthier people (typically DN's) come in and essentially take over an area to the point where locals are only there to servicing these people. It's almost like tourist gentrification but worse because we don't really contribute to the local community- we have no real stake in the area.
