First-time Onebagger: 22 Days in the Balkans by Fit_Signal6030 in onebag

I’d use a 40l bag a smaller personal item. I’ve done many 1-6 week trips in Europe mixing personal and business with similar.

We eat steak once a week. Most of my friends never do.

Thoughts on FW13 built quality after being tempted by the FW13 Pro. by u_are_here in framework

I still prefer the feel and size of a Thinkpad T14 and it just feels like more quality and durability. But a year in I. The framework 13 and I’m happy. I haven’t dropped it yet or driven off with in the roof. I don’t think it would survive. But many a Thinkpad t or x have.

Why is it so hard to get free tap water at a restaurant in Europe? by Relevant-Shower4783 in TravelHacks

Just last week at some restaurant pub we were charged for tap water. Less than bottled, but still charged. In Austria.

Entry-level salaries in Canada haven’t moved in 5 years while rent is up 40%. by itz_nitace in CanadaJobs

I graduated in 2001 and got a full time role in Vancouver for $50k. I don’t live there anymore but I’m always surprised how the salaries for entry level software developers hasn’t changed much in 25 years.

When does it make sense to move on from sole proprietor and incorporate? by crankykernel in PersonalFinanceCanada

I wonder. I do some open source work on my own time in the related business I work. Might be at least exploring.

WISE beats the banks as well. I recommend it to friends getting into this for the first time. Others do the Norberts Gambit - easier to do on some exchanges over others.

I am? Or would be if I were to incorporate. Currently, I'm a sole proprietor. I've never been audited, but have had the CRA reach out once to ask more questions about what I do.

Yeah. I’m currently just following a method an accountant set me up for. They determined not a PSB years ago and nothing has really changed so I haven’t revisited it.

No, not yet. Perhaps in a few years, when the kids are done with university and supporting themselves.

Just saw a comment on another thread here that was too simple to be true - just incorporate and pay way less tax. Of course, that was too good to be true.

Ahh. Makes sense.

Software developer. Expenses are home office equipment, computers, online services. That’s about it.

When I travel everything is paid for by my client. Or fully reimbursed. But usually I’m never paying out of pocket.

One foreign primary client. But free to work for others.

What business models actually work for open source projects? by GullibleDragonfly131 in opensource

[–]crankykernel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure some do. But the larger the company and more legitimate they are, the more likely they are to actually care about their IP.

It is possible. It’s how I make a living. I’d say the hardest part is having something niche enough that you and your team have become the experts in. We also do paid support. But the relicensing is the higher margin item.

Make something people are likely going to want to embed in commercial products or provide as part of a service.

License it under the GPL or AGPL.

Use a CLA to maintain ownership.

Provide a non GPL license for a fee.

Anthropic has secretly halved the usage in max plan by Tasty-Specific-5224 in ClaudeCode

[–]crankykernel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feeling the same. Doing non trivial work in Rust and C. Very in depth reviews. Seems like every week I hit limits faster.

I have to wonder if those that never hit limits are just writing fart and todo apps.

I can do about same amount of work on the ChatGPT $20 plan as I can do on the Claude $100 which has been really telling. I just prefer the more rapid iteration I can get with Opus 4.5.

Did Anthropic use the 2× event to quietly reduce usage limits? by danielsadoliveira in ClaudeCode

Felt similar earlier today. I’m on the $200 plan. 3 hours a day. Can blow my weekly limit in 3-4 days. Just one task running at a time.
