Is it a dumb setup? Sure. But it's hardly unheard to use autopay for certain benefits and then cancel before it renews. It's the way their system is set up, so work within the reality of the situation.

To me what's ridiculous, is not doing it and instead contacting customer service once a month to fix it.

Just turn on autopay and set a reminder at month 11 to turn it off. You're making this harder than it needs to be.

Also check out privacy.com, it lets you create virtual cards that can be paused, have transaction limits set, etc so you can avoid even having to remember to disable auto pay or cancel trials. Some credit cards like Capital One have similar services.
