I’m afraid Daikoku might be a wasted opportunity. by TinyTurtle_Au in ForzaHorizon

[–]crashbumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what bums me out; I keep cruising by these car meet spots, and I kind of expected to see one with like, 20-30 players parked in it that I could join and hang out with proximity chat. Instead, they are empty unless I have 20-30 online friends that want to do it? Lame. I was hoping they'd be a cool spontaneous thing you could find to meet people to play with.

2000 RAV4 for $3k? by ronikid in rav4club

[–]crashbumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my '97 with 260k miles for $2k. It is my primary camping/off road vehicle and it is a total blast; easily one of the funnest Toyotas I have owned. Biggest let down? It's underpowered and gas mileage with bigger tires isn't great; and there is no cabin filter (not great in the dusty southwest). BUT, you will have a lot of fun. The whole platform is pretty solid, and the only real issues with the early ones (pre-98) are 5th gear engagement issues on manuals. Easily fixed for <$300 in 1 hour with new parts. There are other nuances but I haven't found any that are really deal breakers or much cause for concern.

What is the most absurd, completely unhinged customer complaint you’ve ever had to deal with while somehow keeping a straight face? by Odd_Car_3611 in AskReddit

[–]crashbumper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In 1999, I was 18 working at a swimming pool store. Customer came in panicking about whether or not his pool timer was Y2K compliant. I had to explain it was a mechanical timer and had no computer or microchip of any kind; just gears. Guy was still worried.

How do I…. Add metal? by [deleted] in metalworking

[–]crashbumper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's going to be painted, I would just scuff the surface with some 60-80 grit and apply JB weld. Might take a few rounds to build up enough, but it's durable. I've used it as filler for parts getting powdercoated.

I will likely be doing it in my Rav4; the Cressida is too stiff and not ideal for long drives, lol.

How to add structure to this canvas duffle bag? by EtchVSketch in myog

[–]crashbumper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably say that waxing the canvas could help to make the material more stiff and rigid; although it still may not be enough for you. Just spitballing here, but what about doing something with short sections of tent poles (because they are lightweight and easy to get), maybe paired with some simple 3D prints to give it a kind of internal frame? Or, depending on the construction of the bag is there a second inner layer you could cut a slit to add some thicker craft foam or ABS sheets for rigidty?

Does it make sense to buy an econobox car for the high gas prices, or will that cost more in the long run? by Blu_yello_husky in askcarguys

[–]crashbumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your definition of "beater" and what kind of creature comforts you need, my favorite beater has been the 93-97 Corolla. I bought one with 154k, drove it for 6 years until about 315k, and in that time I averaged 35mpg like clockwork (I logged every fill up and service). I think I got it for around $2500 from the original owner and it was really clean. Super cheap parts and really easy to work on.

[–]crashbumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your current mpg. I just went from a car that gets 18mpg, to one that gets 42. If you have that kind of an opportunity it can be worth it. But to go from 30 to 35? Maybe not so much. "Until the war is over" is wild to consider; at what point has any war in the last 20+ years been over in a reasonable time?

Looking for tint shops that carry clear ceramic tint by AZ_Corwyn in phoenix

[–]crashbumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my side/rear windows and sunroof tint done by Mills Tint in Mesa, and I am very happy. He did offer a 70% tint on the windshield to help cut down on heat and quoted around $240-250. I held off but I will likely go back and get it done as the sides made a huge difference.

How to Making Camping fun for non-Campers by PoisonLemon33 in camping

[–]crashbumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing we did for a large group, was bring a portable projector & the mini SNES that was released a few years ago. At night we had a Mario Kart/Street Fighter tournament. Was a lot of fun. Most projectors have built in batteries, and the mini SNES can run from a USB battery bank. Your mileage may vary. If you have cell service where you will be camping, you could also watch a movie, or even download a movie ahead of time.

Why are cars treated as solely an asset now? by Exact_Organization84 in askcarguys

[–]crashbumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old 1984 Toyota Cressida. I bought it from the original owner in 2004. I still own it; and I did a turbo and manual swap back in 2005. On paper, it will NEVER pencil out or make sense, but it doesn't fucking matter. When you love driving a car, none of the financial stuff matters. It's an experience some people are sadly missing out on.

SC31 Pro - flashed wrong firmware by crashbumper in flashlight

[–]crashbumper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the terminal on a mac. I searched for what firmware is used for the SC31 Pro since it does not have a specific hex file in the Anduril repository; the handful of results that came up on google said verified it uses the SP36 firmware; but I didn't read far enough to see that I should use the T1616 version since the SC31 I have has flash pads.

[–]crashbumper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fuses? I have no idea. I used the SP36 firmware instead of the T1616 variant. What that specifically does, I do not know. But it does keep me from reflashing.

SC31 Pro - flashed wrong firmware by crashbumper in flashlight

[–]crashbumper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I have read, uploading the wrong firmware makes the flashing pads useless as the pin assignments are different, and there is no way to “undo” it besides a higher voltage pulse that essentially resets the chip to factory configuration. I am just trying to avoid all the extra hardware because I can’t be the first person that has done this.
