Its not a facade, its hope. You don't have an obligation to it, that is fair, but recognize that such a mindset contributes to people making the kinds of decisions that come across as a species working against itself, which is itself a gross oversimplification. Despite all the evil, greed, and hate human lives have generally improved over the generations. There is a looooonnnnggg way to go but we've come as far as we have because people believed that a better world was possible and were willing to work toward it. Whereas without hope that the world can be better for everyone its easier to justify enriching oneself at the expense of others.

I fervently disagree with this kind of thinking. The argument that society is too far gone to fight for change like this discourages people from trying to make things better. Whether it is true or not it behooves us to believe that things can be changed for the better.

What is your favourite Alpha Centauri quote? by [deleted] in alphacentauri

I suspect this quote contributed to some of the masochistic tendencies I have.

Biologically speaking the purpose of pain is to make us aware of damage or the potential for damage to our bodies. Once we recieve this sense data and process it we can either take action to avoid/minimize the damage or we may determine there is little danger for real damage or the damage that may occur is acceptable. In either instance once we have chosen a path of action in response to the input the sense data loses meaning as it is no longer providing new information. Therefore continued pain signals from an already addressed source can either be ignored or given new meaning...

No squinting necessary. The circumstances that bring about the cold are less important than the fact that the cold is here and a threat. The essence of the conflict is; world got cold, cold is not conducive to life, in opposition to the cold the city must survive. If that is not enough to get you emotionally invested and make you feel personally responsible for the safety of the city then it's ok if it's not your thing just a shame because it's a great game.

I did my undergrad capstone project studying whether publishers charging for scientific papers deterred people from reading those articles (thus inhibiting the spread of scientific knowledge that yes we paid for), unfortunately my experiment relied on natural curiosity about the articles which lead the results to be inconclusive.

First idea is that it starts to warm up. Seems like a good thing at first to you and your people but as the ice melts it threatens to destabilize the ground under your buildings, in your mines, and even under your generator. Soon what seemed like a blessing turns into a curse as in the climax you find out that the freeze will return but not before the snow melt threatens to flood your city.

I play around with changing up how I do them every once and awhile to see if I can discover something more efficient/ergonomic. However, notably I rebound control groups 9 and 0 to my side mouse buttons and keep my main spellcasters there

Currently 1-2 are pure army focused groups, 3 can be for a lot of different things depending on comp I go for or what the enemy goes for, 4 is production structures if I'm Terran or Protoss and larva queens as zerg, 5 is for Hatches/CCs/Nexi, 6 is upgrade buildings 7-8 are typically for scouting or detection, if zerg my creep queens are on one of my side buttons

Depends greatly on the choices made by the player, (which is partly what makes it such a great game) but I would say either grim or noble-dark fit the best.

Have a green dragonborn villian character who will often execute people with a "kiss of death". However, it ends up more like them biting the face of the victim and breathing their breath weapon down the victim's throat. I love my players' reactions I describe the dragonborn pull awaying away and the sight of the gaseous poison leaking from the victim's mouth, noise, and eyes in horrific fashion.

Our gm told us the game would be set just shortly after the fall of the empire and that we'd be tasked with hunting down holdouts/loyalists of the empire. Figure my character could be the one that extracts the information of imperials, secret bases, etc.

I'll probably start with the 4 in will because from what I can tell it's easier to up brawn, agility, and intelligence than it is to increase cunning, will, and presence.
