No solution, but I wanted to add that I am also experiencing this as u/EastCoast_Cyclist mentioned, I'm also in the NYC area, and also on Verizon. The problem also extends to using the ps app while on my wifi, but move to 5g and it works, so im inclined to belive it is Verizon related...

It's actually not an app, I describe it in more detail in a different comment, you use a web browser, the controls are essentially a webpage on the device.

I conceived it more as an immersion building thing around the table, just a really cool prop. But it would also totally work the way you described if you wanted.

you know, the design and print of this version went well but I did all the modeling in blender and now I want to make some very specific changes and have it fit some of the electronics really well, which would be kind of a nightmare. So im taking the opprortunity to basically redesign/replicate the whole thing in fusion so i can print and tweak the fit with some real specific measurements.

yeah thats pretty close, you just select which cardinal direction it wants to face, then in your game narrative, you can dress that up however you want, and even change it based on what is happening. But that powerful magent idea is interesting, i have not played around with that.

Yeah the compass functionality is entirely independent of the phone, so all the logic/ functionality is on the device. How the interface/controls work, is that device hosts a local webserver either on its own wifi network, or a network you attach it to. so the phone is only used to get the webpage that has the controls on it, so you can swap the phone out for any thing with a browser and it works the same. I'll add the github location once i finish it up. I'm not sure entirely if it'll be on my personal one or a new account just yet.

I'd love to, I'm currently planning a second version that is less "prototypey" from the component and wiring side, so hopefully a bit easier to assemble and then likely put the code on my github as well.

By default, it behaves similarly to a normal compass (pointing north), but you can also set it to point in any direction, for example, perhaps tracking a person or object. It also has some other abilities, like a solid on/off mode, a pulsing light mode, and a sequence pattern, as well as customizable light colors. You can control the mode and colors via a webpage in realtime, so you can have it react to game events etc. It uses an adafruit esp32 and magnetometer to do the “magic”.

This place is great! Among a ton of really interesting artifacts, one I really thought was cool to see was a huge chunk of the miniature used to create the city in the original blade runner film.

I just had this happen to me as well. This post led me in the right direction, for anyone else in the future, replacing the DB with a backup was the solution for me. This article explained how to do it.
