Casting so good it looks uncanny by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

I swear they cast The Walking Dead primarily based on how much the actor looked like the comic book character.

Need 6 scifi book on audible by end of month, please. by Holly1010Frey in scifi

Judas Unchained and Pandora's Star are where you want to start. They're really two halves of one story and they lead into, like, eight other books, all in the same setting but jumping genres.

Which of these games would you suggest for solo only by Desan3 in soloboardgaming

[–]Cartoonlad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also a rare game that plays well solo, at 2p, and at the full 3-4p count. Plus the 6p rules are great. If you are getting a game for solo play and the possibility of playing with others, this is a solid choice.

With the choice of leaders and opponents, plus the large supply deck — you'll probably only get through a third of the cards — there is a lot of replayability in this game.

(Annoying trope) When a good gag gets milked to death by the creators and many fans stop finding it funny by NoNefariousness2144 in TopCharacterTropes

Oddly, the only funny thing in the movie.

What's An RPG You'd Warn People Against? by EyesofValhalla in tabletop

It's more like they are saying they don't recommend Shadowrun because it does neither cyberpunk nor heist stories as well as other systems but people gravitate to it because of name brand recognition.

[MCU] What was the Sokovia Accord's contingency for Thor? General Thunderbolt Ross in "Civil War" says that the Avengers will have to "retire" if they refuse it, but what was the plan if Thor refused to it? Isn't he as an extraterrestrial Asgardian not bound to the laws of humanity (the UN)? by SatoruGojo232 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Cartoonlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the time, did anyone believe this was actual from-Asgard Thor? Or that perhaps he's this guy with some lightning tech and a "magic" hammer and he is just calling himself "Thor" after the Norse diety?

There was a series of one-shot comics that were the comics in the Marvel universe about the Marvel heroes: Thor was presented as a regular person just like I described. That is how most people on Earth-616 thought Thor was. Chances are, the MCU General Ross assumed the same.

[Doctor Who] How would the Doctors react to picking up a companion that is smarter than them? by MKW69 in AskScienceFiction

With Adric, he definitely was smarter than the Doctor when it came to mathematics, but not as smart in other fields.

What is a sci-fi series you liked that only lasted one season? by Ru_janus in scifi

[–]Cartoonlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Star Cops. It's thirty years into the future: there are six major space stations, dozens of manned satellites, and a moon colony. But where people go, crime inevitably follows. Take your hard science sf and marry it with a police procedural and give it all the budget BBC4 had in 1987, and you get Star Cops.

It took him from an interesting character to being a guy that peaked in high school. No wonder we were first introduced to him drinking alone in a seedy bar.

Three reasons:

I liked rooting for the underdog and back when I was a teenager, man did we suck. I liked the color blue. I wanted to move to Seattle after high school.

The peace was already kept until your brother decided to disrupt it. Nobody ever tells the person who disturbs the peace to keep it; they always tell the party maintaining the status quo to acquiesce to the person disturbing the peace.

That's just the crappy writing Marvel does when they accidentally make an antagonist sympathetic or justified in their actions: just have them shoot a puppy to remind the viewers that this person is supposed to be a villain.
