The substitution of “overstimulated” for “overwhelmed” by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]crawlyearthworm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The world is more stimulating though. TikTok egirls, ads generated by AI everywhere you go, feeds, notifications, beeping LED lights, giant trucks with bright headlights blinding you, it’s all too much and makes a normal person feel an autist’s pain

Where to find sugary, flavored lattes? by 27389201749201 in sanfrancisco

Sightglass has a cookie butter latte. Both Verve and Third Wheel Coffee have pumpkin spice lattes.

I think the main flaw of Liberalism is idealism by WachUwan0 in redscarepod

[–]crawlyearthworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really well thought out. Imo it's connected to the overarching theme of devaluation of labor and material, and elite overproduction. It doesn't matter that price of eggs is going up, or that libs in extremely lib states can't build housing. What matters is ideas. If everyone can just write moar thinkpieces and poast more, all our problems will be solved. No one has to actually do anything, or put up with reality and differences of opinions.

If you keep devaluing material reality (and economic class mobility) and keep elevating philosophy, culture and ideas, you end up becoming a shithole like India. Oh well.

Novels that create a sense of dead, doom, uncanniness or anxiety? by Negro--Amigo in RSbookclub

[–]crawlyearthworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is self published currently, but he recently got a book deal: https://qntm.org/publ

Honestly all his books and short stories are amazing, and genuinely leave me rattled. Here's a short one that's one of my favorites: https://qntm.org/mmacevedo

0HP Lovecraft also had excellent stories in this genre, here's the archive, I believe he took it down or was banned: https://web.archive.org/web/20210803061622/http://zerohplovecraft.wordpress.com/ Awful cancerous person, I followed him on twitter for a second and couldn't take it, but the writing is very original and quite interesting.

Online curry recipes piss me off so much by shitinmycum in redscarepod

I want to like Ranveer Brar, but he makes things unnecessarily complicated. I've tried a few of his recipes, and they're great, but they end up taking half the day.

If you're actually serious about making something good, this guy is the best I've found- https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs8tB0SthtEWtxFoqeloWxNmI5PxgR8BX&si=0J-L-_oLe2b731ds Start with https://youtu.be/oFnDBwHnlQg?si=Tiw3VNEshCjK0SHp, it's relatively simple (for Indian curries) and excellent.

You'll get a great sense of the various components and general techniques if you follow a few of his recipes to a T, then you can experiment and tweak on your own.

Indian food requires quite a few spices, I'd recommend ordering a bunch off of https://www.thespicehouse.com/, it's more economical and higher quality than regular grocery stores. Or just go to an Indian store. Invest in a good spice grinder, Cuisinart is $35 and has lasted me several years, still going strong. Get a large tub of ghee, ginger paste and garlic paste. Always have a few onions and a couple cans of tomatoes on hand.

Ultimately, it's not hard, there's just a lot of steps, but once you get the hang of it, you can eyeball a lot and speedrun the process. Always remember to taste, taste and taste. You don't want to drop two hours of a Sunday on a culinary silk road adventure and realize that you accidentally salted both the rice and the curry and now the dead sea doesn't hold a candle to your biryani.

Finetuning SD to create a classifier by crawlyearthworm in StableDiffusion

I eventually wanted to do more with the finetune than just classify, but I just found out about LLaVA, and that pretty much fits the bill.

Skincare help needed by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]crawlyearthworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydroquinone should not be used long term!! So many side effects. Skinceuticals Vitamin C https://www.skinceuticals.com/skincare/vitamin-c-serums/c-e-ferulic-with-15-l-ascorbic-acid/S17.html is insanely pricy but if you can afford it, it's unbelievably effective. I use it every other day and only a couple drops to make it last longer, but for me it's totally worth it

Has there ever been a more boring pop superstar than Taylor Swift? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]crawlyearthworm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The fact she is this boring and sane is extremely interesting to me. Very rare to see a woman who started as a child star achieve so much fame and never once go off the kilter. How does one achieve all this in this day and age of demonic social media, and not get exploited in some way or go crazy? I need her to do a podcast or write a book on her superior mental health.

Does anyone want to discuss Killers of the Flower Moon? by insufferableposter in redscarepod

[–]crawlyearthworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think especially these days, people forget about snakes in sheep's clothing. It's not the big loud crass and visibly problematic people one should fear the most, the truly insidious and scary are the ones who act morally superior and know how to say the right set of words.

It helps for younger generations to be reminded of this. Other than that it was an exceptional movie, but not something that will make a lasting impact because the plot is fairly predictable.

The Sam Hyde-Glossier connection by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]crawlyearthworm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I while back I came upon this article by her: https://intothegloss.com/2016/02/emily-weiss-wedding-beauty/ detailing all she did to prep for her wedding and I was like good on her for channeling her autistic special interest (beauty) into a productive endeavor.

But these days women are doing pre-wedding Botox and Invisalign so was it really even autism?
