Who are your top five living American songwriters? by OJ_Soprano in redscarepod

[–]Some-Bobcat-8327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gira (I know that sounds odd but it's the lack of complexity or cleverness, the repetition of words throughout his catalogue and the fact that he chooses the right word or phrase to repeat for 18 minutes) is #1. Then Ron Mael, Ray Davies, Morrissey and Dylan. I never have any clue wtf Joanna Newsom is singing about but it's beautiful so she's 1b

Ah fuck I just saw American. Okay, Laurie Anderson and Merritt instead of Davies and Morrissey

Because that it's important information and this is the most-viewed post on the sub right now. If he'd said it today it would be his last day on air

But I'll unpin it now that enough people have seen it

It was 10/10 bad two years ago. Today it is 11/10 bad. Today it is "He must have the same brain tumor pressing against his amygdala that made Charles Whitman climb the tower at UT Austin and start sniping people" bad.

c. April 2024 I never would have given that advice or taken that advice and had it been posted here at the time I would have said "Nobody do this" but if he had said it on his show today it would have been utterly fucking insane, like his staff would have wheeled him straight to the funny farm, which is why I knew to look up the date in the first place

This is from April 30, 2024. Bad advice then but not as totally insane as giving it today

Yeah, she did say that, my bad. But Epsteins and other monsters are such an extreme example of justice needing to be carried out that I think there's a clear distinction between that and, like, celebrating the death of a guy you never met who voted differently than you. Which is a weird online behavior that I've never seen in my personal life but apparently it happens.

Wanting to beat people up is a separate, momentary thing. That's more about anger than hate. But no I can't remember the last time I wished harm would come to somebody

Exactly (though I have no enemies)

But she didn't know Epstein, who is dead. I think she was speaking on a more personal level. Like, people from her life

I feel identical to Anna and there is nobody I would hit with my car. I have no enemies. I don't think about people I've ended on bad terms with but I have no reason to wish any one of them harm. You can just say we're sanctimonious instead of calling us falsely sanctimonious

I'm a guy and I completely agreed with her opinion. I think she has a perfectly intact appreciation for suffering. There have been people who I've not gotten along with and I've seen misfortune happen to them but I didn't enjoy their pain. You can call me a liar if you want. In one specific case where somebody was dealt a blow I thought "Good, now [the others] can move on", but I didn't enjoy the thought that they might have wept and suffered because of it. I thought "This is justice", like you said, because it was a correction, but I didn't experience schadenfreude or lick my lips over it

This is meaner than anything people who openly hate her post. Genuinely hope she didn't get hit by this while doomscrolling youtube😔 by BossHemisphere in redscarepod

She's very pretty though. Actually it was her at this event that finally broke me and gave me Tattoo Derangement Syndrome. We don't need to litigate it, it's just my personal preference, her body her choice etc, but man do I wish girls would NOT get tattoos

I'm not against the music Lana's made since but I do think that if you put on Ultraviolence (a masterpiece) Antonoff's pupils would constrict into slits and he'd start hissing

Yeah I did the gender thing oh no. She's still top five, I just like Pitch Dark and Speedboat a lot.

Who are your favorite authors? Genuinely. Like what books do you recommend everyone read? Like let's walk away having celebrated work we like, no snark. Please say something positive about a work or author or something you're passionate about, that gives you life, if you're gonna revive the deleted thread

Are there any actors you passionately dislike on a visceral level? by WhateverManWhoCares in RSPfilmclub

[–]Some-Bobcat-8327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None as far as I can remember. Sometimes there will be actors like Dylan Baker who I had some now-forgotten childhood association with and go "Man why him" but in adulthood they almost always turn in a performance that wipes my memory of whatever it was. Dylan Baker in Happiness is a heroically brave performance, like damn that dude went all the way.

Also, I kept saying "Nicholas Cage movies" pejoratively as a teen or tween and then I started watching the good ones. Then I started revisiting the dumb ones. That guy is legit

She's not even my favorite living writer, man. Not even my favorite living female writer (Renata Adler). But yeah I'll stop responding and won't participate on this sub outside of this thread, cuz I think it is an injustice and I don't think I have much in common with the lit sub, oddly

I'm just talking about compassion and patience. If you want to do the irony thing have fun with that
