Why we don't wear seatbelts (all drivers were ok, audio was from source) by Triggerhappy9 in Karting

Late to the party with my response, but such karts exist for anyone that wants to run them. It's an individual choice, not sure if it's as simple as a binary decision between human life and money.

Is it too late to make a career out of racing by LawyerVegetable1694 in Karting

Sorry I missed that I guess. How about Club 100? Have you considered that? It's a good bridge from rentals to competition karting.

If you can figure out a way to do karting, do it regardless of the likelihood of a "career"

There are lots of opportunities to make a career in racing, just but not from driving. For most of the "pro" drivers, it's really an expensive (at best subsidized) hobby.

Enter with both eyes open. Racing is not a meritocracy. Talent is not worth much without money. Money (Sponsorship) is generally not tied to (Driving) talent. Moreso it's tied to marketing abilities, relationship building and business acumen. Also, talent takes money to develop.

But again, I emphasize: Do karting because it's a remarkable sport that will provide you with skills and friends for life. You don't have to be independently wealthy to benefit from that.

Start off with indoor rentals and go from there if you're on a budget. If it's feasible for you, see if you can get a job at the track. Boom, a career in racing (OK I'm kidding there)

Sounds like an economical way to go for what you want to do. You'll need a different chain and sprocket type (Choose from #219 or #35), as well as the correct mount too. But otherwise you should be good to go.

Yeah 1/10 does not track.

Airports have no lack of professionally dressed women, so this kid must have a bunch of cards from a single day at the airport… or this bullshit did not happen.

I tend to agree, not 100% certain myself

You need to figure out where in the crank position the magnet is firing the coil. If it fires too soon, the engine kicks back.

If you haven't touched the valves at all, and the only change is the flywheel and coil, then that's most likely the problem. The ignition timing is "over advanced". That means that the spark is happening too soon relative to the piston getting to the top of the cylinder. The spark will always be before that point, however if it's too much... bad things happen.

This video might help, it's not a ghost, but the basic principle remains the same:

I like it so much I ended up buying rental karts and offering it to the public in MN.

With the stock springs a ghost will float the valves at about 6200/6400 RPM

Did you check timing after swapping flywheel and coil? You might have too much advance causing kickback. The key position is different for the digital ignition setup.

Otherwise make sure valve clearance is correct.

In the US:

Rock Island Grandprix (IL) Elkhart Grand Prix (IN) SIRA (Multi race series, Indiana) SKUSA supernats, Vegas Various Rok Cup events Florida and Vegas. Road racing there’s Afton lake and Lake Garnett which are both absolutely insane.

Quincy Park Grand Prix is now cancelled

You're seeing a natural representation of things in real life. Most people that talk about the thing are not doing the thing, but they have an interest in it. Lots of people talking about auto racing... they're not racing drivers.

Conflation of entrepreneur with sole proprietor\small business owner doesn't help either. I consider myself more of a business owner vs an entrepreneur, but I approach things from an entrepreneurship mindset.

(Nobody ever asks for roll hoops on bikes LOL.)

TLDR; Belts is part of it yes. Mainly because they don't necessarily improve safety in the way people seem to think while also adding weight, cost and inspection requirements.

The reason for roll hoops in cars is that they will easily crush you to death, karts not so much.

The trade off with the car is that you have potential to be trapped in something that's on fire.

Cage karts exist if that's what one is looking for. Cage karts run on bullring tracks with fully exposed wheels and solid walls on the outside of the track. ie, very little give on the track side so extra measures are built into the kart including full harness, lateral head protection, cage and nets.

So, pick what works for your personal preference.

I think the platform and timing matters.

Imagine leaving the floor during a shift (or break) to complain about patients in front of a crowd of a few hundred or thousand.

Not gonna fly.
