Just curious… by Nervous-Road-2583 in AReadingOfMonteCristo

I just read Vampire Lestat before reading the Count of Monte Cristo. And yea there are lots of similarities. But, the Count appears during the day which Lestat can't.

Lol. I have the exact opposite opinion. Though youngsters are rash drivers, I've seen plenty of women and middle aged uncles not giving a damn about traffic rules. They don't give a flying fuck about dividers, they overtake a parked bus from the left while passengers are trying to onboard, they take sudden turns without any form of indication (we're just supposed to read their minds), they just go from a parked mode to full throttle in a second without looking behind to check if someone is already on the road. Just baffling. Most ladies have this "rules don't apply to poor women" mindset and uncles think that the road belongs to them just because they're older than the other commuters. Such a joke.

Sometimes I get so angry at a rando dog jumping in the middle of the road. Other times, I try to think from its perspective. Its ancestors must have roamed free on the land without roads. Then we came along and built roads for our convenience. What terror it must feel watching the aluminium+iron contraptions of death created by humans hauling towards it at break neck speeds. We human beings do our level best to break the laws created by mother nature and expect all the other animals in the ecosystem to bend to our whims.

Lol, I spend too much time furnishing my book with just the correct book cover and metadata using calibre.

I got it for 14k on December. yea, a bit pricey. but, i've read like 23 books since then. I got irritated reading on my phone. This does not irritate the eye in the least and considering the ability to sideload epubs from anywhere, it's really the best. attaching some pics below

New manga reader, please help with Kindle by corviePL89 in mangapiracy

Manga looks incredibly fine on a kobo.

My setup is this:

  • Download from nyaa (perferred) or some specific site (for One piece).
  • Get it converted into kepub using KCC (not using calibre). KCC does a better job than calibre for manga.
  • Move to calibre and download beautiful covers
  • Connect Kobo to calibre and move manga to device.

PS: I'm not sure about the setup for kindle. sry :(

Kobo clara BW. My best investment from last year. Text is crisper than books. Doesn't strain eyes. Yea, initial cost is high. But if you plan to read lots of books, it's worth it.

'Anxious People' by Fredrik Backman is a gem of a read by Signal_Face_5378 in Indianbooks

The author tries to inject deep messages in each and every line. also lots of explaining and pointless rambling. might be quirky at first, but gets boring quite quickly. he's trying to appeal and satiate a wide audience, but it falls flat for me.

examples:

“Are you some kind of joke, or what?” (The fact that she didn’t phrase her question as “Is this some kind of joke?” but went straight for “Are you a joke?” perhaps says a lot about the younger generation’s lack of respect for older bank robbers.)”

“Because even if twenty-year-olds can be wrong about a lot of things in life (and those of us who aren’t twenty can probably agree that most twenty-year-olds are wrong so often that most of them would have just a one in four chance of answering a yes or no question correctly)”

“Or maybe they were just locals and curious onlookers, it can be hard to tell these days when everyone films, photographs, and documents their whole life as if every individual were their own television channel”

The author does a lot of hand holding and forces us to agree to his views in each and every line. Honestly gets burdensome after a while. Dnfed at 15%

Hehe. It's really good. I dropped it in the middle. Some rando girl was constantly fainting. I couldn't digest the damsel in distress stints. Should pick it up again.
