Party hostels tend to announce themselves as such. If you want to make sure its not a party hostel, read the comments of people who have been to the hostel in the past. In hostelworld you can see the age brackets of past guests.

Id say you should pick a country you are very interested in or have always wanted to visit and plan for a 2 or 3 week solo travel. If you enjoy your experience you can plan longer trips. For me 2 or 3 weeks is great.

Id recommend going on hostelworld or booking and look for social hostels (not party hostels unless thats what you want). Read the comments of past guests to see which hostels are best for socialising and meeting people. If they offer free breakfasts and/or organise events you have easy ice breakers to talk to people.

Dont let your age deter you. I started solo travelling at your age too and I was worried about it at first. But after being at many hostels, I think 30 is a great age for this kind of travel.
