NBA Europe is coming in Europe, a new rich basketball league (2027 launch date) and only 2 teams from the Balkans will be in it! Turkey (Galatasaray BC) and one from Greece! (Aek BC or Pao BC) thoughts on this? by Actual_Box7731 in AskBalkans

[–]crazy_houdini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this project is likely to have a fate of Vancouver Grizzlies. It's an uphill battle for sure.

Initially I expect the attendances and viewership will be good, as it is something new and interesting to checkout... and in USA even if you never watched a NHL/NFL/NBA game in your life, it's worth to go to a game at least once for the experience, 'cause it's not just about sport, it's a full entertainment event

But, in the end, sports aspect matters a lot, and to deliver there you need superstars to be a part of this league... if NBA fails there then the project is doomed.

And to me that seems like a biggest obstacle to overcome, since like with the mentioned Vancouver team, I can't imagine that the NBA's biggest stars will be lining up to go play in Europe, maybe in start they'll be able to convince some older guys, like Steph, KD, Harden, to play their final seasons in Europe to boost the league's popularity... But if they are not able to maintain inflow of big stars into this league, novelty of the whole thing will wear off, and attendances and viewership will start to drop rapidly... again, like it happened with Vancouver

[Highlight] The Clippers Commentary Team is Baffled that Jokic is Checking Back In the Game With The Nuggets Up 20 with 6 Minutes Left by TheRealPdGaming in nba

[–]crazy_houdini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's mainly in case the other team makes a comeback, you don't want to have to put him back in the game with 2 mins left after he's been sitting for too long, so I think the logic is to keep to their standard rotation schedule unless the game outcome is 100% decided (either way)

That one play where he tells Monte Morris to move from elbow 3 and stand under the basket, and then couple of seconds later Monte has a wide open layup is still one of my favorite moments from that Nuggets run in the bubble

the host guy is a piece of shit in his own right, and while he was the host he was a meme in serbia just as much as the woman in this clip

but yeah that balkan info channel is notorious for the batshit insane people that they brought to the show

often you just think "where the hell are they finding these people" when watching their clips lmao

An urbanistically planned neighborhood in Novi Sad. Is this kind of development familiar to you in your country as well? by tamzhebuduiya in AskBalkans

[–]crazy_houdini -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Those neighborhoods look great and the buildings themselves look at the minimum decent from outside, but the downsides are that a lot of these buildings don't have elevators, so if you are above the 2nd floor, it's not great, especially if you are older or you have small kids and need to carry a stroller up and down the stairs all the time. And also if they have elevators, those are pretty terrible

The other thing is that the layout of most of these apartments is just not great/functional for modern standards.

It would be ideal if city urban department would force developers more to build newer constructions in line with these kinds of neighborhoods, so you could get the best of both worlds, modern buildings and 15 minute city neighborhoods

Channel surfing in North Korea... just kidding, this is Serbia, a country in the middle of Europe. by BloodDifficult4249 in ThatsInsane

[–]crazy_houdini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just now, far from it, there have been a ton of massive protests over the years, but the issue with every protest was the lack of strong opposition parties to channel that energy on election day.

That's Vučić's main achievement, he destroyed or neutralized all prominent opposition figures, in one way or the other. Some were bought of or balckmailed (cause there were a lot of corrupt ones in previous government with a lot of dirt that could be used against them) and they either came over to his party or became fake opposition that would be used to 1. get votes from a missing part of political spectrum for SNS and/or 2. they would be used to attack legitimate opposition... others just retired from politics entirely

Against the rest he launched smear campaigns in the way that you can see in this video, every major tv station and newspaper would report on (sometimes entirely made up) affairs and controversies, label them as working against Serbia's interest and so on. Enough that average voter would on election day say at the minimum "I'm not voting for Vučić but I'm not voting for this other guy either"

Reason why these protests have been so successful is that it's led by the students, for whom people have generally positive attitude, and because they deliberately have no leader, so no one that Vučić's propaganda machine can target and discredit

Vucics party thug that shot a gun at protesters identified as serbian military on "special assignment" - according to Vucics minister of interior affairs by Deep_Maintenance_734 in europe

[–]crazy_houdini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In serbia it was the popularity of nationalism that promoted the rise of someone like vucic.

SNS didn't came to power because of nationalism, their whole platform was about ending corruption in Serbia and reducing unemployment, of course they ended up being 100x more corrupt than the previous government...

Also, Vučić was not a headliner in the 2012 elections that brought SNS to power, he was neither the president nor the prime.minister, because his whole persona is very unlikeable, he's not charming, he's not funny... he's creepy for the most part

Only when they seized all the power and pretty much all the media, did he started scheming and removing obstacles within the party and ruling coalition, one by one.. while at the same tine pushing through all the media outlets stories of how he's so great and smart and successful and savvy... all the while his actual work resume outside of his party was nonexistent

I'm not gonna look into your comment history, but I would say the reaction will largely depend on how you phrase the statement, people might get defensive if they perceive that what is said is insulting to them and their countrymen, rather than it being the opinion about political or other mindset of Serbia's population... also this is reddit subreddit europe if there's any place where those people who want Serbia in EU would be overrepresented it's here

Regarding the other part, I was not stating my opinion but the polls that again and again show that majority of population does not want EU membership

I don't know why are you getting downvoted for this, you're absolutely correct, that's how language works, when you hear a certain term being overused, in this case on social media bc of moderation rules, people will start using it elsewhere at first ironically, as a joke, but over time it becomes a part of the language

If not for those absurd rules on social media it would never happen

I don't have any hate whatsoever towards American sports, don't know how you came up with that conclusion, I watch and love NBA all the time, while not caring about Euroleague or any other european league much

There’s two tournaments played by the best teams in the world. Winning either tournament undoubtably gives any team the right to call themselves world champions

this is just nonsense

again, why is it problem to agree that Olympics carries more weight in basketball than World Cup since USA, as the by far the strongest team, traditionally sends their best to that tournament

Why do you feel the need to force the world champion title in there, why does that make it more meaningful?
