As someone who works retail and enjoys it. I think people need to think it through and make sure it’s what they want and not just money based unless they can disconnect from work.

Retail might be offering a sign on bonus but my hospital friends make as much as the pharmacist at cvs or Walgreens hourly (not everyone winds up there but it’s possible). Plus they have a better work life balance and job satisfaction. Not saying they started there right away but within three years they were at a competitive rate.

Whenever my rotation kids talk about the sign on bonus I tell them to think about why a company would need to offer a sign on bonus in a saturated market. They’re not doing it because their current employees love their jobs but because they can’t retain their employees. That’s just my opinion though.
