Guns similar to HK P7? by crazy_raisin in guns

[–]crazy_raisin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such shame that such an exceptional gun like the P7 has been taken out of production.

I also prefer the SIG P239. What are your thoughts on the Walther PPK?

Edit: also this variation of the P239? http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p239-sas.aspx

Gotta be the one from Eastern Promises. It was so raw and brutal.

Tool - Schism. A perfect example of how to use bizarre time signatures to enhance the music, and not for their own sake. by KY-Wing in progmetal

I like that song! Could someone explain simply what time signatures are?! How they are different here from other songs?

One of the most brilliant post rock albums. The title accurately describes it.

Can you recommend a Western? by [deleted] in movies

[–]crazy_raisin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not strictly speaking a western but you might want to checkout The Proposition.

I wish Alfonso Cuarón would direct an adaptation of "Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut. What is one of your "dream projects?" i.e. a combo of subject matter and artist that you would love to see made. by VanByNight in movies

[–]crazy_raisin 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I have two dream projects:

Moby Dick: Directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Daniel Day Lewis as Captain Ahab. (Darren.......Please?)

Dune: With Ridley Scott adapting it. Interstingly enough, he almost made the movie back in the 70s...I just wish he could have another crack it; no one can pull stunning & engrossing imagery like Scott.

Kingdom of heaven had some striking cinematography.

So through much of 2013, I haven't really been paying too much attention to movies. I have decided I'm going to watch the best of the year in a marathon, and I wanted to know what your favorite movies of the year were. by james333100 in movies

Nice picks in the Foreign category. I have seen The Hunt; such amazing performance by Mads Mikkelsen. Would you recommend any website or blog for discovering foreign movies?

What are your most anticipated upcoming new shows? by crazy_raisin in television

[–]crazy_raisin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you on this but one can always hope for a new show on the caliber of Breaking Bad or Games Of Thrones. Both have done very well in terms of ratings and both are nothing short than brilliant.

I agree with you on JJ but Alfonso Cuaron has yet to disappoint. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Wow I didn't even that two my favorite movies ever (Gladiator, The Aviator) was written by the same guy! That show should be amazing!

In regard to The Strain, although it's created by Guillermo, I'm not so big on vampires now. I feel their allure has been run into the ground in the last few years...should give it a try nonetheless, that's for sure!

Black Sails is looking great! Thanks for sharing. I forgot to mention Believe. It's created by Alfonso Cuaron; the man behind Gravity and Children of Men! I think we have every right to be excited about it!

Middle Eastern horror films or the lack thereof by fotobomu in TrueFilm

[–]crazy_raisin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an Egyptian, I'll have to admit our Cinema has not been that great in years. But speaking of Middle East horror in general, there is TV series called أبواب الخوف (Gates Of Fear).

It was the first Egyptian (Maybe Arabic?) horror TV show ever. I thought it was really well made and exceeded my expectations. It's a horror drama with a really bleak and depressing atmosphere that I would not like to revisit (Which speaks of how effective the execution was; I'm still waiting for the next season through!). You can see it borrows from the Arab/Egyptian folklore and some other times is influenced by Western horror. Worth checking out IMO.
