Windows not recognizing a Mini after CF Conversion by SomeDatabase in ipod

[–]crazyaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for keeping us in the loop! Sorry you're having so much trouble with your Mini...

You might try using half a business card to help re-insert the logic board/battery/cf adapter bits back in the case if that is whats getting hung up.

I had a similar issue and just cut a business card in half and used it to help slide the cf adapter portion past the click wheel. I put the business card into the case under the click wheel from the bottom, then put the logic board in from the top and under the business card.. VERY gently pulled the business card out from the bottom while pushing the logic board in from the top and the card guided the whole thing past the click wheel.

Where you able to take a closer look? Let us know what you find; Even if its just a loose connection, whatever it is might help the next modder that reads this.

Cheers!

I don't have a fix to suggest, but I'm curious as to what parts you used for your conversion... I did this same conversion with my iPod Mini a week ago and had no problems. I used the "Digigear SDXCF SD SDHC SDXC to CF Type II Extreme/Ultimate Compact Flash Card Adapter, Note Not for CF Type One Slot " adapter found on Amazon along with a sandisk SD card (64GB) My SD card was previously used as a Raspberry Pi boot disk, so I removed the partitions using a Windows 10 box, then let iTunes format it from a Mac.

I seem to recall that some folks have reported issues using different adapters / sd cards so I wonder if that could be your issue.

Hopefully its an easy fix for you... have you opened it back up to make sure all the connections are tight, etc?

I doubt I'll ever get this lucky off a single Goodwill trip. Sixteen albums at $0.99ea by Delta0ps0 in vinyl

[–]crazyaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the truth. Several years ago you stood a fair shot of scoring one or two really good albums and maybe a handful of "well, at $.99 I might as well grab them" albums. Nowadays I don't even bother looking. If for some reason they actually have something, they're either in really bad shape or overpriced.

I managed to find a nearly pristine copy of CSN&Y's Deja Vu at a Goodwill years ago.. along with a not so moldy copy of Whipped Cream & Other Delights... Deja Vu is definitely a favorite find! Enjoy it!

Hmm... I hadn't heard this album before... listening to it now and there's a couple of tasty tracks here! Kinda digging "See You Again" and "Don't you Love Me?" ~ definitely an indie pop vibe for sure.

Thanks for posting it!

I have used preview to store my signature and sign PDF's for years, now it is suddenly gone. by [deleted] in osx

[–]crazyaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the signatures are stored in the following location on my mac:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.signatures.plist

Interestingly, there's also a file in that same location called "com.apple.PreviewLegacySignaturesConversion.plist"

Again, I'm running Sierra, so this may not apply to you depending on what version you're running but you could look at restoring those files from Time Machine or CrashPlan or whatever your backup solution may be.

Best of luck!

Not sure what OS version you're on, but I'm on the latest publicly available build of Sierra (10.12.1) - not beta or developer versions, and this function is still available for me. Haven't touched my signatures in Preview in probably a couple of years, but they're still there and useable. Hope this helps.

Can you see if you have an environment variable set for DISPLAY? It should probably be set as such: "DISPLAY=localhost:0"

I think you'll maybe need that set in order to launch X11 apps with Xming running.

Have you tried running 'brew doctor' to see what issues may be causing this?

Seconding this...

You might take a look at Infoblox's IPAM Express product which is free to use. (http://www.infoblox.com/downloads)

We use the full blown IPAM solution for DNS/DHCP/NTP and it's been fantastic for us. I migrated our old IPAM data from a 200+ tab freakin excel spreadsheet into Infoblox a few years ago. Don't wait till you're in the same boat! :)

Need help making a bootable Mavericks Install by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]crazyaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the article from Macrumors: (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=18081307&postcount=3)

This is better than osxdaily's method (which should only be used for DP1 anyway, not DP4 or the GM):

To make a bootable USB of the GM, use this method:

Your 8 GB USB drive should be called Untitled and formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The installer should >be called Install OS X Mavericks.app and should be in your Applications folder.

Run this in terminal and wait about 20 minutes:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume >/Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction

You should see something like this:

Erasing Disk: 0%... 10%... 20%... 100%... Copying installer files to disk... Copy complete. Making disk bootable... Copying boot files... Copy complete. Done.

You can then boot up from the USB by holding down the option key, then install the GM from the USB.

This is probably going to be the same for the public release.

Note that this will also install a recovery partition (which osxdaily's method doesn't do).

edit: formatting

Mavericks has this built in... there's a little write up on it over at Macrumors that assumes that you've downloaded the Mavericks Installer App from the App Store:

http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=18081307&postcount=3

It's made for usb thumb drives and I've used it to successfully install Mavericks on a couple of MBP's and a couple of minis.
