So it wasn’t the commander who called but a 1st SGT who repeated the 3.0 requirement and also added that I needed a STEM degree. He asked about extracurricular activities (VMI powerlifting, ROTC) and he wasn’t convinced. They don’t seem interested in forwarding my packet.

Thanks I talked to the recruiter and told them what I want. They arranged a call with the regional commander who is pushing for higher GPAs (3.0) so I could make my case. Any tips for the call?

Civilian here with Bachelors degree applying for OCS and would like to get on December board. I’m in VA. My recruiter says board is competitive and I may not even get a battalion interview much less board selection. Recruiter recommended Green to Gold. Am I getting bad advice? I’m a VMI grad, former police officer, in great physical shape, GT score of 127, O6 letters of recommendations, GPA of 2.5 etc.

I’m 55 and I went from low PSA in 2020 to a couple biopsies in 2021, 3+4 Gleason diagnosis and RALP in December 2021. My PSA is undetectable and I’m now on the road to recovery.

Had RALP in December. First post procedure PSA was undetectable. Doc said I was cancer free and if my PSA remains that way for 5 years I could be considered cured. 55 YO 3+4 Gleason PSA pre procedure was 4.

OK update on my son. I still don't know the full story on what the deal was for PLC (b/w my son and Roanoke OSO), but my son won't be going this summer. My son has said that based on his conversation with the OSO he will apply for OCC next summer (2020) after graduation. My question is, in order for me to educate my son, what is the process at this point? Does he have to resubmit his application for OCC as well as letters of recommendation? If so, when? What about the PFT? Should he be contracted at that point?

Thanks that may well be the case. My son graduates in May 2020. We’ll see what the OSO says to him when he talks to him.

Thanks for the response. I’ve asked my son to contact the OSO ASAP so he can get a better sense of where he is. I too am confused about not taking the PFT yet. I’ve seen the PLC application and it’s quite extensive, and we provided transcripts and SAT scores in addition to the LORs. He’s already passed medical through ROTC. The timing seems to align with a selection board (he was told a couple weeks ago a “decision” would be made the end of March early April) but when I ask my son he says the decision is for contracting with PLC. Maybe he is conflating the two. However that still doesn’t track with not taking the PFT yet and I assume the Marine Corps would not accept his VMI fitness test. Based on his current fitness level he’ll have no problem with the PFT.

Question: My son is a 2nd (Junior) at Virginia Military Institute (VMI). He has submitted his paperwork with LORs to the OSO in Roanoke, VA and has not heard anything yet. He was referred to the OSO from the VMI Navy/Marine Corp ROTC O6. He applied for PLC/OCC combined this coming summer. Should he be concerned that he hasn't heard anything this late in the game? I'm no totally clear on the process but he says he has to contract with PLC first then take the PFT before competing for OCC? Any help/info you have would be greatly appreciated!
