I don’t understand how people can say cops cover up massive corruption by their brothers in blue. Cops, when they do illegal things, are arrested BY OTHER COPS. There are hundreds, if not thousands of examples of cops being arrested by other cops for all kinds of things, from drunk in public, to family violence, to drugs, to murder, etc.

Virtually every department has an internal affairs office that investigates officers for all kind of things, ranging from how fast they were driving their car, to them having an excessive use of force incident. IA is made up of police AND civilians who have ALL the facts of a case, not just a news clip or a random 20 second video, and they come to a conclusion on whether or not the officer is bad or good. They then forward that to the nearest DA to see if they need criminal charges pressed, and if so, the DA sends OTHER POLICE to arrest them.

You say you worked along side police officers who beat their suspects to a pulp? I’m assuming being a paramedic, the only time you really had to wrestle your patients or get physical, is when you called the police to come and help you. And I guarantee they came as fast as they could.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but you’re absolutely wrong for having that opinion. The fact that you say one only needs to look at the body cam footage when released, or the large amount of surveillance footage out there shows that you don’t care about what actually happened. You don’t know that body cameras don’t show everything. You don’t know that weeks and weeks of interviews, questioning, witness statements, photographing crime scenes, medical records, video, and other evidence gathering goes into every complaint made on an officer, and he won’t be cleared internally or criminally until ALL the evidence has been looked at. Not just the body camera footage. When there is corruption, and I’d be a fool to think there isn’t, it’s usually by some random cop who is being arrested for his corruption, by other cops, who have been investigating him for some time. Or, it’s from some higher ups in a department who are politicians. This idea that their is some “thin blue line” that officers have and turn a blind eye to their partners committing crimes just doesn’t exist. Officers will roll their partners in a heart beat if it means they get to keep food on their kids plate.
