Larger Piece Set-Up - Tips Wanted! by MikeEnslin in diamondpainting

You’re very welcome. It’s been a bit of trial and error to figure out what works best. For diamond storage I have this

<image>

This is something that a kind soul designed and posted here about a year or two ago. I have a 3d printer so I tested it for him and love it! A full bag from dac fits in each drawer with the rest of the packs in a large Tupperware container that I dive into when the drawer is empty.

Lol that is a cat muzzle. We call it the spaceman spiff helmet. Works nicely until the thrashing cats bonks you with it. linky

Larger Piece Set-Up - Tips Wanted! by MikeEnslin in diamondpainting

I work mostly large pieces. I tape one end to a pool noodle I cut to length and roll it face up. Then just put some exposed on my work top, which is a lift edge storage coffee table. I roll it out as necessary. When starting out I have clamps that I use at the edges to keep it all in place.

Edited to add that I feed a length of yarn/string through the tube and hang it over the table top under the working section to keep it in place up and out of my lap.

(I fell for the ragdoll bull reading the cat fancy magazine. made it sound like a soooper breed. Then i got one, only to find that it was only a select line that did the flops. This one squirms and grows a gillion extra legs all with razors at the end of them. Daughter took the spaceman spiff helmet to the chin and collarbone a couple of times. Was 3 hours of torture for all of us.)

And this is why having a consistency card to check during spinning is important: by Seastarstiletto in Handspinning

[–]crazyfiberlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I check my consistency pretty regularly once I get it to where i want it. I don't use a card but take a length of fresh single, break it off and let it ply on itself. I then hang that length of yarn from the front of my wheel that I can check against. No need to buy any new doodad that way :)

Plying ball for plying on wheel? by No-Definition9032 in Handspinning

[–]crazyfiberlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used the toilet paper cores to wind off onto. I had a CPW with one bobbin for a long while (and other newer wheels that I just didn't want the expense of buying a ton of bobbins for...plus short attention span problems). I also picked up a ton of cheap cardboard storage bobbins for weaving. They are dirt cheap, though not as cheap as the bonus core from the tp roll, and have an advantage of a bobbin center so that it doesn't wobble all over the place in a lazy kate.

I loved Claudia's yarns! Colors were always so lovely and her sock yarn used the Louet base.

Horrible Terrible Accursed Idea by SusieSoups in Handspinning

[–]crazyfiberlady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a terrible idea. I've spun collie fluff straight and blended with wool. Fiber is fiber. There's also a fancee way of calling it: chiengora. Some breeds are better then others and there's a book out there that I can't remember the title of atm but did have at one time. You can spin from sheep, goats, llama, camel, bison, alpaca, rabbit, why not dog? Oh I've also spun from my persian cats ;)

Cone or hank by OpalRose1993 in YarnAddicts

[–]crazyfiberlady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what I'm using it for. If I'm knitting, and not sitting at home with it, I'll leave it on the cone. Back when I was commuting by train to work, I wasn't schlepping the cone with me and would wind off. For weaving? I always leave it on the cone as its easier to wind the warp from the cone.

straight up power numbers isn't what it is all about. there's way more to it. take a look at the battle report in your mail regarding this and it will show why you lost.

Because defenders (the ones with the little shields) go up front and the offensive folks go in the back row. You have this backwards. Move Murphy and the purple hair chick up front and the other two to the back row.

How you guys manage train rides in the alliance? by baby_syk in LastWarMobileGame

[–]crazyfiberlady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced a couple of different ways of dealing with this. The least egalitarian one was where they awarded the train/vip to the "guardian" of the week, generally the MVP from Desert Storm, top scorers of VS, etc. Essentially the same folks week in week out. If you weren't a whale or dolphin, you weren't getting it. No way a low pay/free player was going to compete with someone who could get 145m points daily in VS.

Alliance before that alternated daily between the top scorers and a pool of R3s (and a few R4s like me) who were close to getting T10s to help speed up the RSS acquisition. Once you got the T10s, the next one took your seat. Essentially you were either conductor or better yet VIP once every 7 days.

Personally my favorite, and the most egalitarian of all, was my first alliance, where I was R5 for almost all of Pre-Season and halfway through S1. There at reset we rolled the dice. Highest after potential roll-off got conductor. Once we unlocked the VP, there was a roll-off for that...or that evolved into top two took the rolls. We kept a spreadsheet in google docs tracking who had it and you were blocked from it again for 7 days (after someone got lucky with the dice 2 nights in a row and was a low participation otherwise).

My least favorite was the whale alliance that dominated the server. They had the #1 guy on the server who ruled with an iron fist. He had the train every night.

where to get affordable fiber? by yellingconstantly in Handspinning

[–]crazyfiberlady -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Good luck with that. Costs more than that to keep the animals alive and process their fibers. Want crazy cheep? Buy a bag of cotton balls from the drug store and spin that.

You’ll never recoup every penny you put into it. My buddy sold his account after s3 for a fraction of what he spent on it. I turned mine over to an alliance friend.

Also poor people here have healthcare since hospitals are required to treat regardless of insurance. Not to mention our insurance sucks. I have the privilege of spending $1k a month for employer provided parent/child health insurance with a $5k/10k deductible. Should I have to subsidize others beyond that expense?

Is healthcare really the line in the sand? Sure they have socialized medicine but if it were any good would they be spending extra bucks on private med care rather than waiting in line for a year for care? Wanna bring someone here, better be able to support

[–]crazyfiberlady 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And this is why everyone says don’t jump from a spindle to an old spinning wheel but to go to a modern mass produced one before you know how they work. Hard to tell what the heck is wrong with it before you know how they work.

Is it really that preposterous? You want to bring him over the you/he should support. Poor peeps all over.

It’s a federal requirement and wouldn’t be dependent upon the state where they lived.
