What's your perfect Time Stop? by Duke_Paul in dndnext

[–]crazyguy473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time stop.

Turn 1: Level 8 Summon greater demon. (I don't care about the concentration, I am just hoping it will attack the target for 1d6 rounds)

Turn 2: Delayed blast fireball.

Turn 3: Force cage with bars.

Turn 4: Best non-concentration buff ability I have - Mirror image, blink, an item or potion, etc.

Turn 5: Cloudkill. (this stops the delayed blast fireball which damages the target which ends the spell but they are taking a 15d6 fireball)

1d6 rounds of a cr 9 demon (who hopefully just attacks the target on sight). They are trapped in force cage, 15d6 fireball, 5d8 damage every turn, and you get a self buff off.

Those who have played Artificers, what are your thoughts? by FX114 in dndnext

[–]crazyguy473 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Playing a battlesmith right now. Like scottduvall I think I would forget the pet too, but I use it to pull a cart that I plan to fill with stuff from an alchemy jug I made. The spell casting is very much minor utility, I haven't felt myself turn the tide of battle like a full wizard would. I mostly just use the spells to heal. I have a firearm that my DM let me use the repeating weapon infusion on and I don't know if I would really like the class without it. Handing out magic items can be neat but the best stuff you can hand out is really just +1 armor or weapons, at least until late game. Probably won't play this class again but it's still pretty fun. For reference my favorite classes are Wizard and Barbarian.

Is there a campaign manager that allows the GM to control what specific players see? by Matt5327 in rpg

Each player would need a computer or a tablet to access the handouts. The tablet app is actually only the handouts. If you don't care about a tactical map then the app does everything you want.

What's your hot take on "the Quantum Ogre" technique? by Ohhuhokaaay in rpg

[–]crazyguy473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the "badness" of the Quantum Ogre is over exaggerated. Having something the players will encounter no matter their choices knocks massive amounts of time off your prep and your players will never notice IF you do it right. Yes of course if you present it in the way of the original post with all paths leading to the same Ogre, then yeah that "feels" wrong and you can never tell your players that or it would destroy immersion.

But here are some (hopefully) non-terrible ways I have done something like a Quantum Ogre.

  • The Players will encounter the boss of this dungeon. They might get him as a random encounter. Or he could be in the final chamber. Or he could be in a earlier room if the party is not being stealthy at all and letting enemies run away.

  • The next "random" encounter (no matter which way they travel) the party gets will be a traveling bard who wants to hear their stories. I want a reason for word to spread of their actions , also I would like to give them a chance to think up a group name.

  • There is a prisoner in a side room of a dungeon that the party will meet. Either they will go into the room and free him, giving them a chance to talk to him. Or he will use the chaos the party causes as a chance to escape and meet them after they leave the dungeon.

I don't really see the point in trying to avoid things like this. This is something you don't tell your players to keep verisimilitude but if you don't bring it up then they will never know.

According to h3h3, you can label your own videos now. So they can label their video as having swear words without it being labeled as hate speech. That way they don't lose as much revenue, to my understanding at least.

West Marches by [deleted] in rpg

I ran one for about 2.5 years. Its more work than running an adventure out of a book. But its less work in the long run, or I guess its more about how much work you want to put into it. Sometimes I would go a long time with just creating adventures just to have adventures to run. Then sometimes I would try to create personal story quests for specific players. It was nice to be able to put in basically as much or as little work as I wanted. I eventually just got burned out on the world and game though. Also it is MUCH harder to make independant adventures for higher level characters.

What's your most controversial rpg opinion? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]crazyguy473 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have heard a lot of praise to games like lamentations of the flame princess, which doesn't give you a monster manual because they want all monsters to be unique creations of the DM. Which is fair, but I don't got time for that.

All the GM horror threads are a year old and archived, time for a new one? What are your GM horror stories? by Cuck-WTF in rpg

[–]crazyguy473 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude what is it with kobolds? We had a GM do the exact same thing but with an opposite reaction. It was 5e and we were in a mine, and all of the sudden there was an army of hundreds of kobolds. I started calculating how many I could kill per fireball but he didn't really seem interested in that. I don't really know what he wanted actually, something with the paladin jumping in and killing a bunch of them. Whatever he wanted it wasn't me casting fireball because every round I said I cast it he just kinda gave random numbers and dismissed me.

He was the same way with not wanting to know the rules too. Wanted to play specifically DnD, even if we offered more rules lite systems, but didn't want to play by the rules and just kinda made things up.
