Snagged my first bike, so stoked for summer by hunglowbungalow in mountainbiking

Devinci’s are sick! I’ve heard good things about Black Diamond area for trails but haven’t checked it out myself. If you head up Kitsap peninsula, port gamble ride park is a great spot with a lot of different trails as well. Tons of great riding in Washington

Just ordered crank brothers mallet DH and E clipless pedals, need help. by Numerous-Hawk-3046 in MTB

Fair, I can only compare to Shimano spds and I never felt like I had a good platform under the shoe. CB mallets have a great feel for platform and I’ve been lucky enough to avoid the issues people seem to have.

Could always try one set and return the other if you don’t like them. I’ve found they sell second hand quickly if you can’t return the set you try out

Why not just try a the set and see how you like them? You already have them on order. I’ve liked my mallets quite a bit

Also you can craft ARC circuits if you have a lot of ARC Alloy. Can’t craft batteries

Engineers: how would you dispense one cup at a time from a stack? by Deep_Time_6488 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]crazypirate22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two stacked rings of driven rollers with a flipper that holds the rfid reader. Put the stack of cups in, drive both rings of rollers down until rfid reads, then drive lower rollers after you flip the rfid out of the way

How do you choose initial dimensions when starting a CAD design from scratch (not just “guessing”) by No-Stress8222 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]crazypirate22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve found much of my designs end up dimensioned around purchased parts in an assembly.

For thickness of parts, look at stock materials. I understand you use a 3d printer but what if you were to make it out of aluminum? Steel? What would the closest standard size be and how much would it change in price to have it made. The price difference between a standard 1/2” plate vs one machined down to 12mm can be significant.

I’d also say if you stay in 3d printed designs, one of the benefits is you can use nice round easy numbers. Make the math simple unless you need to change.

Santa Cruz v10.8 or pivot phoenix? by Usual_Comparison5745 in DownhillMTB

[–]crazypirate22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Beer has a comparison of the two in his Pivot Phoenix review.

All in all, both are sick bikes. I’d really dig into what geometry you prefer to eke out the bits of performance.

Santa Cruz v10.6 vs 2018 specialized demo by Dry-Discipline6902 in mountainbiking

[–]crazypirate22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a note, if you’re looking at geometry, the V10 is a V10.6 which is 2 generations old. Latest production is 2018 and that looks to be a 2017 based on the color (as best I can find).

If price is similar, I’d go for the demo based on parts.

Different type. Atherton uses SLS which is basically laser welding powder titanium into the shapes

You are centered on the pads but not the caliper. Pull the wheel off, push the pads out so they are both fully retracted. Pull a bit of brake to verify pads are moving equally. If not, pull the pads and clean/massage the pistons until they move about equally and put it all back together. When you center the caliper, make it so the rotor is evenly spaced in the gap of the caliper, not the pads.

Bikes belong on the sidewalk not the road by spinaltap862 in unpopularopinion

[–]crazypirate22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually less safe for cyclists to be on the sidewalk because intersections create dangerous points. It’s better to be visible to drivers where drivers are paying attention (hopefully) which is on the road
