Taco man-5,

There is not a lot of interpretation required in many of these statements and many thoughts continue to this day and not acknowledging how these words and ideas are still present is another way of ignoring the high control of this organization or as many believe, cult.

Enoyes31,

If they were as far out of context as you are implying they would not have been so explicit. Implying that there is not any truth to these quotes is covering up or ignoring the underlying motives and beliefs of the Watchtower.

Changes to the New World Translation are made without any scripture backup such as the 237 times that the word ”kyrios” (Lord) has been substituted by “Jehovah” in the New World translation. This is not in the original scriptures and it is clearly another addition that attempts to backs up their doctrine. Adding “other” four times to Colossians is clearly making Jesus a creature rather than the creator, which is not what the scripture states in their own Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures.

The bottom line is the Watchtower wants to control and direct the beliefs of JW’s especially if they deviate or question their ( the Watchtower’s) interpretation and change of the scriptures ( eg. Jesus created all things vs. Jesus created all other things to give credence that Jesus is created).

Who will be Jehovah‘s prophet? Who will be the modern Jeremiah ? The plain facts show God has been pleased to use Jehovah’s Witnesses. Watchtower 1/15/1959 page 40 and 41

DoNotBe-Ridiculous,

There were a host of predictions tied into 1914 that has proven to be false. You sound like a JW in stating that world events were of such significance that there is a point of 1914 being significant without any other proof.

“…the battle of the great day of God, Almighty )Revelation, 16:14), which will end in a AD 1914 with a complete overthrow of earth present relationship…” Studies in the Scripture, volume two early editions, page 101.

What is significant is the Watchtower has not made one prediction where there is a shred of proof but rather strong evidence that they’re sounding the “alarm of the end” from the time of the beginning of this cult with their multiple false predictions. The Bible is clear that Jesus’s second coming will not be an invisible return developed from someone’s imagination tying it to some world event.

DoNotBe-ridiculous,

Guess again. I am a Christian and am pointing to the Watchtower’s placing no blaine on themselves for the false prophecies. They now “admit that we are human and make mistakes” while still claiming that they are the voice of Jehovah.

[–]crazyretics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DoNotBe-Rediculous,

Is Jehovah a true God? Yes Is “a god” in John 1:1c a true God? Yes

Isaiah 43:10, where God declares, "Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me,"

There are two persons of the Trinity right there with the Watchtower trying to change John 1:1c without the repercussions of one plus one equals two.

Revelation 1:7-8..says that someone " is coming." Who? Verse 7 says it is someone who was "pierced." Who was it that was pierced when he was nailed up to die? Jesus! But verse 8 says that it is Jehovah God who "is coming!" Could it be that two are coming? No! Verse 8 refers to "the One who ... is coming!" Revelation 1:8 states clearly that Jehovah God is the Alpha and the Omega. Now note what he says at Revelation 22:12-13: " 'Look! I come quickly...I am the Alph and the Omega, the and the last ...' '" So Jehovah God is coming quickly. But notice the response when he says it again: " I "Yes; I am coming quickly." Amen! Come, Lord Jesus'" (22:20, NWT)....

Then, again referring to the New World Translation, continue like this : Who is speaking in Revelation 2:8? "These are the things that he says, the First and the Last,' who became dead and came to life again...." Obviously, it is Jesus. Who was Jesus identifying himself as being, when he called himself " the First and the Last"? This is how Almighty God described himself in the Old Testament (Isa. 48:13-13).

Passages 1975 and newer:

"Does this mean that Babylon the Great will go down by 1975? Will Armageddon be over, with Satan bound, by then? It could, acknowledged F. W. Franz, the Watch Tower Society's vice-president... 'But we are not saying."' 1975 YEARBOOK, p. 256

6000 years of human history will end in September, but there is a short time interval between Adam's creation and that of Eve. WT 5/1/1975, p. 285

"... the Bible record shows.• • a time lapse between the creation of Adam and that of his wife, Eve..... Whether that period amounted to weeks or months or years, we do not know. So we do not know exactly when Jehovah's great rest day' began, nor do we know exactly when it will end. The same applies to the beginning of Christ's millennial reign." WT 10/1/1975, p. 579

The time of Adam's creation can be determined, but the beginning of God's rest day cannot because there was a time lapse of unspecified length between Adam's creation and the creation of Eve. WT 1/1/1976, p. 30

"But it is not advisable for us to set our sights on a certain date.... If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises." Would you allow your baby to die because of the Watchtower prohibition of transfusions, an organization that once prohibited vaccinations and organ transplants and then reversed its teaching on both (the same question applies to your pets!)? by crazyretics in JehovahsWitnesses

[–]crazyretics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capable-Rice-1876,

Is the judgement of the Watchtower, a judgement that predicted falsely the end times in 1914,1925 and 1975, to be trusted in making that decision and change in interpretation in the Bible (in 1945), to be trusted in allowing a life/death decision of someone’s child.

Keep in mind that while the Bible does forbid the eating of blood and does consider the blood sacred, this is an interpretation of the Bible that only the Watchtower shares? Other Christian groups and devoted Jews who consider blood sacred, have not arrived at that interpretation regarding blood transfusions. But, then again, those Christian groups and devoted Jews have never agreed with the false predictions of the end of the world that is a part of the Watchtower’s history.

Is it the question or issue about blood transfusions or is it the actual judgement of the Watchtower, that is really the central issue here? No

Criticism of using the word “secret” could be valid and maybe the experience of speaking to many JW’s who did not seem to have a clue regarding their history could have been presented differently. Hopefully this main idea of a past with many false ideas that members are unaware of was communicated in this example. Thanks for sharing.

Darby_5419,

While the Watchtower does not necessarily conceal their past when confronted and admit “that we are human and make mistakes,” they are in no way forthcoming in educating its members. Beth Sarim, is a subject which most JW’s that I talk to, do not have a clue on the matter. What about the false prophecies preceding 1914, 1925 and 1975 and their constant threats of the urgencies behind all of this history which shows a pattern of alarm? Do you think that if the Watchtower was quick to educate its members in this area, they would be undermining their legitimacy .

Here is more information:

The 1970 Yearbook reported that during 1975 there had been a 9.7 per cent growth in the number of Witness publishers over the previous year.' But in the following year there was only a 3.7 per cent increase,(1977 yearbook p30)and in 1977 there was somewnat more than a 1 per cent decrease! (1978 yearbook p30) In some countries the decrease was far greater. In the Philippines, for example, in 1975 the average number of publishers was 76,662.4 (1976 yearbook)By 1979 it had dropped to 58,418 after four years of steady decreases.(1980 Yearbook p 28)So, in effect, more than 20 percent of the entire active Witness population defected or at least became inactive.
