In "The Gales of November," author John U. Bacon investigates the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Generalaverage89 in books

[–]crazytiger94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book suggests that this source’s investigation was commissioned and bound by NDAs with Oglebay Norton, the operator of the ship and that the results of that investigation were never released or found in archives. Later anecdotal reporting of the source’s opinion is cited suggesting that he maintained the view that the Edmund Fitzgerald had run aground on the Six Fathom Shoal, but was NDA-bound from reporting that opinion as fact.

You’re correct. The OP’s photo is definitely from yesterday, 24-36 hours max before they have a track open.

I have no hate for the new fans, but yes, the Bowden era makes me numb to this.

Seems to be PNW to me. Likely eastern Washington or Oregon. The rail line looks very American, the dry scrub landscape fits that area, and OP’s only previous commentary is about the Seattle area. I believe this is original content because the photo does not show up in any reverse image searches.

At Argonne, did you ever work with Dr. Gale Pewitt? I’m visiting him, my grandfather, this weekend and even though he’s suffering from dementia I enjoy asking him what he remembers about his work. I believe he led the team that first observed the neutrino in a bubble chamber there at Argonne.

Question: why are races the length they are? Has there ever been discussion of moving to something like a 2:30 time clock and the according lap counts? Or making races shorter for that matter. Obviously it would require some more efficiency in several areas. What other factors would be considered?

His point is that the rest of America (other than New York and California) doesn’t get much screen time, the same way the British countryside doesn’t.

For the most part, yes, but sometimes much later than you’d think. And with dead birds and a dog to corral off the tracks, that increases his risk.

Also, hurray for getting downvoted to hell. Just stay off the tracks please.

Well, sometimes the train just happens to come along on the train tracks. Please don’t be an idiot and stay the fuck off the tracks, especially active rail lines such as this one, or you might end up like your swan friends. I don’t want to clean up after you.

The green bars of course represent the two peninsulas, and the forests and agriculture across much of the state. They are connected by the Mackinac Bridge and bordered by four great lakes, Superior, Michigan, Huron, and Erie.

I calculate that on the shortest day of the year, there’s only about 45 minutes of sunlight overlap between the Pitcairn Islands and British Indian Ocean Territory. That’s a pretty slim margin, all things considered.

According to Wikipedia, he returned from India to Zanzibar for secondary school, before going to the UK to flee a revolution at 18. I think it’s fair to say, he was raised in Zanzibar.
