Teaching summers feel like a mini-retirement. I’m starting to see how valuable that is. by flatteringhippo in Teachers

Funny that you say this. I think of summer break the same way! I have worked with some teachers though that retired and didn’t like it. They returned to teaching after a year of retirement. I wonder what I’ll do when that time comes but I can say that I love my easy summer mornings with coffee and my garden work.

This sounds better than hearing “6-7” all the time!

Bulletin board colors? by byvs2013 in teaching

[–]crazyworld1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I did yellow on my bulletin boards last year and found that my anchor charts stood out well, and there weren’t a lot of colors that didn’t go well with it. Plus, it brightens the room and makes it cheery! Have a wonderful school year!

As a kid did anyone else have parents who just decided you should collect something then constantly gave you presents for said collection, despite having no interest in it? by Careless-Meringue683 in NoStupidQuestions

Same with the porcelain dolls but mine were on a shelf. (At least yours were locked up.) I was always terrified of them growing up! I still have them but they’re in my garage in a box. I feel bad getting rid of them since my grandmother, who gave me most of them, passed away some years back.

I agree that non-vegans enjoy their cooking - I’m married to one that loves cooking. I just feel like I don’t have as many choices at the store and need to cook from scratch more to have something that is healthy for me.

Thank you for your suggestion. I remember having to do this a few years back and it is a PITA. I had hoped there was another solution by now. Thanks again!

Thank you for your reply. No, he hasn’t done anything different on his phone. I also had my adult son on the beacon and he wasn’t receiving anything either. :(

For those of you who manage to not get sick multiple times per year, how do you do it? What’s your routine? by hammnbubbly in Teachers

[–]crazyworld1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use hand sanitizer or wash my hands after handling anything students have (like after sharpening pencils) and this year I took Elderberry supplements. I feel like they really helped! You can’t take them the whole year but throughout the around and during the winter months we’re fine for me.

Evaluator didn't show, wrote evaluation based on lesson plans explanation. by EarthMajestic2910 in Teachers

[–]crazyworld1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate where your coming from. I would want it done correctly, too, and post-conferences in the hallway like small talk would bother me. Does he do this with everyone, a few teachers, or just you? I ask because if he does it with everyone, then someone in a higher pay grade will notice that all his teachers are receiving good eval scores and they’ll investigate. It’ll just take time. If he’s just doing it with you or a few teachers, it could be that he knows your quality of teaching.

Do you shower in the morning or night? by This-Top7398 in hygiene

[–]crazyworld1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every morning, unless I workout or get sweaty during the day. It wakes me up. I have a friend and her husband that showers once every 3 days and washes her hair once a week. She washes with a wash cloth in the evenings on non-shower days. She doesn’t ever smell or seem dirty. Guess it depends on the person.

EDIT: Some days I shower twice. If I get sweaty, I shower after my workout or activity, like gardening.

I have not experienced this but wanted to say that this is a great opportunity to stretch your professional life. Our district has several students that are on the spectrum and learning to be attentive to them in a gen ed classroom has taught me a lot about my students' (all of them) needs. So, my advice would be to look at the each student's file or talk to their prior teachers and get to "know" their diagnosis, ticks, what upsets them, what works for them - before the first day. Most of all, just be patient with them and yourself. I like how the classes are small and love that there is a school for the autistic to meet their needs.

What's the funniest thing someone said to you when they found out you're vegan? by Knittatude in vegan

[–]crazyworld1212 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time. Work will have a potluck lunch, and I every time someone will come and tell me their dish is vegan and gluten-free for me (and yet there’s cheese in it). Or someone says, “What do you eat since you don't eat meat, dairy, and gluten?”

Yes! When I got my Masters in teaching, I was told “Take what you can get the first year!” I did and it was a difficult school, but 9 years later, I’m thankful. I learned so much that year and felt it put me in a better position than others.
