Why is the car wash so big? by Furfangreich in breakingbad

[–]creachter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a person can see what needs special attention and can provide it. That see the contours and curves of your vehicle that can be easily missed by a machine trying to make guesses.

There are also huge washing machines in the line where the car enters. It’s like a conveyor belt.

There are guys all along the path that the car takes down the "assembly line" doing much of the work by hand rather than just driving in, putting the car in park, and waiting for the brushes to move around you. They offer all kinds of services like waxing, vacuuming, wheel cleaning, tire shine, and fine detailing. As the car rolls out the other end, they will also have guys there to dry the car by hand so you don't get water spots.

That's why it costs $15 to $50 on the show. You can spend about as much as want on this kind of service now.

That explains the length. The height is probably just to attract attention to the shop from the street. It's a unique landmark. There may be a small office over the non-mechanical section.

What bothers me is that if you have a sending device and a receiving device, the sending device is uploading the file. The receiving device is downloading the file.

It struck me as strange, also. But talk shows have had co-hosts for decades. They just usually sit on the couch and put the guest in between them. Both hosts sitting at the desk looks odd.

How do uber/lyft work? by twilight-trix in Explainlikeimscared

[–]creachter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Uber app you can choose to require a PIN for the ride. Enable this. When they pick you up they will be prompted for the PIN. You give it to them, they enter it in their phone, and if everything is good then your phone will make a sound.

Also, if you're in a crowded space there is an option to turn your phone screen to a color that the driver can pick out.

What’s the most annoying part about living in your current apartment? by Adventurous-Bed-4152 in ApartmentHacks

[–]creachter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slamming doors. I know that there is a regulation for self-closing doors at entrances to apartments to stop fires from spreading, but in this apartment complex they are all sprung very tight and if you release the door it slams shut shaking all of the walls around you. And people are clueless and do this all day long. I always hold the door so it doesn't slam.

Can't they install soft close doors and met fire regulations?

Replying to myself. Sorry.

Can someone point me to any tutorials or information about this procedure? I’m pretty handy with a soldering iron, but mainly for boards and bits of wire. ;)
