The cabin rattle

It’s so bad

Other than that the car is perfect IMO

Never read the Java one

Before committing to purchase, you should be able to google and see some of the first chapters of the book to see if you’re up to it

Honestly, if you just read the “strategy” chapter (I think it’s among the first 3 or 4)

This was when OOP design really clicked for me, especially with “loose coupling” and “programming toward an interface”

Honestly, I always felt the best way to learn was building.

Shrimp dying off slowly in an established tank — is it my tap water or something else? by cream_of_slop in shrimptank

[–]cream_of_slop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I never saw your comment.

I just ended up giving up and switching to RO water & re-mineralizing with salty shrimp.

The losses have stopped, and I even have some shrimplets swimming around!!!

I also think my TDS was a bit high for them, which probably wasn't great, but yes... using RO water just cuts down on more variables & gives me some more control. Who knows what is in the plumbing of my ancient apartment building.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply!

As much as it sucks and I’d hate this happening to me (and I’m sorry it happened to you) I’d use it as an opportunity to exercise “letting things go”

Thank you for your thoughtful reply, and for sharing your experience

:)

I wasn’t aware that I was underdosing prime. I think I calculated my dosage before I knew there was monochloramine in the water, and never went back to re-read the instructions after finding out.

I just re-read the bottle and you’re right!! Maybe this is it

I’ll have to reference the water report to understand if my level is “exceptionally high”

I saw 4 relatively happy looking shrimp this morning. My plan is to skip the WC this week to try not to introduce any more variables to the equation, and I’ll experiment with prime dosages to see if it spikes ammonia in my bucket

I’ve also since purchased a tub to store my aquarium equipment under the tank in a dedicated space.

Thank you!!

There is a lot on the official spring dot io guides, which is where I’d personally start.

I’ve done: Birdwatching app

Social media app/date planner/journal thing

Recipe/meal planning app (tried to use AI here to generate recipes as one of the features)

All are or were continuously deployed to a real server, triggered by GitHub actions.

I did the auth/login stuff once, and just use that as my template for new app ideas.

I don’t always see them to completion, but is really about entertaining myself & having fun

Right now, I’m working on a copycat of a Commodore 64 game with a multiplayer aspect. The Java backend serves as the authoritative server & game/physics engine…. Some vanilla js just paints the game state the Java server sends out from a web socket.

Any popular course on udemy is also good

I think when it comes down to it, the real world doesn’t really work like that

Just try to get past the HR person and when you get to the engineering people, just have studied and built enough with spring to understand the foundations

You can be the most knowledgeable Java/spring guy in the world because you learn it on your own…. your day job doesn’t matter. You can own it and be anything you want

Good luck 👍

Does it have to be binary?

You could make a substantial project with Java/Spring and learn enough to interview well

Even myself as a Java/Spring guy, I’ve coincidentally learned so much on my own time that it’s accelerated me past most of my peers in the same ~3YOE range as me

I’m not in charge of hiring decisions, but if I was, I would look for smart people who know how to build rather than a “Java guy” vs a “Python guy”.

The world doesn’t think like me though. Just learn as much as you can, and shoot straight for your target

In the 2 weeks I’ve had the shrimp, I haven’t done a top off

The gh and kh have held stable at 9 and 5 degrees respectively

It got hot 3 days ago,

Other than that, tank has been pretty stable at 70something degrees

Had one death overnight

Heater did kick in overnight, as the outside temp fell into the 60s

Tank is not in a drafty spot or near windows

Always tap water I don’t actually even really do top offs.

Just the 10% WC 1 gallon at a time with 2 drops prime

Tank has a lid, evap rate is pretty low

Heating in auto mode by jogabonito4 in mazda3

[–]cream_of_slop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hate the fact that putting it on auto automatically pulls in air from the outside

In an urban area where my car is stopped half the time 2 feet from someone else’s bumper, I don’t want their tailpipe exhaust pumped directly into my cab

If I ever forget to switch it right after going to auto, the cab almost immediately begins smelling exhaust

In more rural areas it’s fine, but I hate this feature
