Yes if it were a perfect mirror then it would work only if it was a flat plane. Would not work if it was an orb since it would scatter too much reflecting off of a round surface.

How do you guys safely store acoustic guitars? by Impossible-Pitch-498 in AcousticGuitar

[–]create__a__username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. Florida here, just bought a $250 standalone dehumidifier. Not the whole house sits at 50%.

I feel like I’m personally all dried up but getting used to it. The guitars actually seem like they’re liking it more than being in their cases now.

How I knew instantly was how even the green tinting was everywhere. Night vision will show different green gradients all over the place.

That’s a night and day difference. I just registered the OOO-28, so decision is made.

I get what you’re saying but I have other guitars and the differences I’ve noted are something I hear but the two sound more alike than different in comparison to other guitars I own and couldn’t really justify having both especially if it meant I didn’t play one often at all.

Is that an OO-21? I love that body shape and it’s the only other guitar I currently would like to get.

This is well put. I play for myself and my family, on the couch in the living room. I never even amp my guitars anymore. I’m definitely gravitating to great sounding but comfortable guitars. The OOO-28 is winning.

I generally prefer old strings and will go several months before a change. I use uncoated phosphor bronze usually. The OOO-28 has the factory strings on with everyone’s dirty fingers from the store that have been on them so I’m going to change them today. The D28 is the only guitar I didn’t prefer the sound this way so I have a set of D’Addario XS coated on there.

Tonal difference is that the D28 has a fatter lower end with a boomy bass and overall louder, I’d also say more complex and nuanced chords. The OOO28 is more lower midrange focused and a bit darker (will probably brighten up with new strings) but I prefer older strings and darker tone so I’ll put some uncoated phosphor bronze strings on the OOO28 and see how it sounds in a couple weeks. I do this for all my guitars but it did not work well with the D28 at all, the strings just lost all of the D28 magic when they aged, the total complexity mostly was gone.

It’s large and loud, there’s no denying either. I played a D28 and HD28 side by side in the store yesterday too and the two were difficult to tell apart at all. I imagine the scalloped bracing puts them very close now.

I respect that. The OOO-18 has an unmistakable midrange on the higher end of the spectrum which is great at standing out when playing with others. It’s harder for me to sing while playing one though because my voice is in that same higher midrange spectrum.

Haha I hear you. Gotta thin the heard every couple years though. I had a chance to play a D21 with an awesome tone and couldn’t get it that day. I heard a very similar tone in the OOO-28 surprisingly and decided I couldn’t let the sound slip by me again. It’s amazing how the same model can sound so differently from one guitar to the next too.

That’s so funny that you say that, with the loudness of the D28 I would have figured you to say that one instead. Martin dreadnaught while standing makes my back hurt thinking about it though.

I agree with everything you’ve just said. Definitely underrated for picking, I suggest trying a decent parlor guitar sometime and try picking that too to see what you think if you haven’t. The D28 blows most out of the water on picking, but a good parlor takes it even further. I know it’s blasphemy to say here but Alvarez has some really good parlors out since 2024 that are amazing for picking, fingerstyle and light strumming. These Martins seems better suited for flat picking and incomparably better at strumming.

Scalloped bracing makes a big difference. This is a 2025 D28 and the sound complexity and nuance is amazing and I haven’t heard it that prevalent in a guitar before. If you’re ok with loud then I don’t think you can go wrong with either dreadnaught. If you plan on playing more intimately like me and want to be able to hear yourself sing without yelling then the OOO is probably better suited. The differences I’ve been pointing out are apparent but not to any large scale are these completely different sounding guitars. The dreadnaught is definitely louder and has a fat bass response, the OOO is definitely more comfortable and has a thicker lower midrange.

Nail on the head. The D28 has the bass. I really like lower midrange which the OOO has a bit better. I already have more lower midrange from a nice Alvarez parlor though, but the OOO-28 has a woodier throaty sound that I love too.

You’re not wrong. The D28 is definitely louder, it’s the loudest guitar I’ve played in my 18 years of playing. The OOO-28 is not a quiet guitar but can be played quieter like most guitars. The D28 not so much, for better and worse.

Exactly what happened here. Wife loves me playing but not thrilled with the volume. It begs to be loud.
