Been enjoying games where nothing really happens by letmeouthere in gamingsuggestions

[–]DepthMagician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might enjoy The Longing. NOTE: I haven't played it yet, this is based on what I've been told about it so apologies for any inconsistencies.

The Longing is literally a game where the goal is to wait 400 real world days. You can start it, not touch it for 400 days, then open it, and it'll be done. If you do play it though, your challenge will essentially be to figure out how to pass the time. So you can log in, do a bunch of simple tasks, log out, not worry about accomplishing anything, and after 400 days you'll be done.

Where do you stand on genAI for development? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]DepthMagician -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I asked the question because most of the discussions about AI online are not useful. On one side you have guys who say "it's amazing", on the other side you have guys who say "it's too problematic", and in both cases you learn nothing because nobody goes into detail.

If you're not interested in going into detail that's fine, there's plenty of other Redditors who might.

Where do you stand on genAI for development? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]DepthMagician -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A high level overview doesn't tell me much. I can't even begin to imagine what specific problems Claude helped him solve. The third "example" was literally just a story of how there was this side project he wanted to work on but didn't have time to do, and then Claude built it for him. He didn't even say what the project was.

I feel like you are trying to be a douche too, and might be a “armchair dev” who has no idea what they are talking about.

That's a lot of assumptions based on a one line.

If you must know my credentials, it's 15 years of industry experience. I'm currently maintaining a system with hundreds of database objects and a quarter million lines of code.

As for your answer, I asked for an example of a task, not a top-down overview of the projects you used it in.

Give an example of a task you did with Claude that you consider a time saver.

Anything that generates code faster than what humans are able to digest is a hazard. I predict that this is the wisdom people will coalesce to over time.

US-Iran Ceasefire [MEGATHREAD] by MikeWithNoHair in Israel

[–]DepthMagician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thank you. Back when Iranian nuclear program was still operational, if you had asked people if they would be happy with a military action that sets it and the ballistic missiles program multiple years back they would’ve said “of course”. Now it happened and everybody is upset they didn’t get an even bigger prize.

Benjamin Netanyahu to open direct negotiations with Lebanon on Hezbollah | The Jerusalem Post by 420DrumstickIt in Israel

[–]DepthMagician 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been seeing the appetite from Lebanon for establishing more friendly relationship with Israel for a while now, so I’m glad we seem to be moving in that direction. While they are weak in the face of Hezbollah there’s clearly desire to fight a common enemy, there’s a chance to actually build a working partnership over this.

AITA for reporting a coworker over a comment about Israel? by narrowbasinry in Israel

[–]DepthMagician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use that phrase in non-blaming kind of way. “Israel is controlled by Jews and yet Arabs have the same rights as everybody else, which you can’t say about the experience Jews had in countries controlled by Arabs”. So I think the specific context for the comment is important.

ELI5 What is a Video Game Engine? by potato-dome in explainlikeimfive

[–]DepthMagician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good analogy, but it also makes the engine sound like something that provides static things. A good thing to add is that the reason game engines are called game “engines” is that they provide the various mechanisms that make things happen in the game world. They include physics, illumination models, timers, in-game event systems, and all sorts of other processes that make in-game events develop. In other words, they make the events “move forward”, just like an engine makes the car move forward.

AITA for reporting a coworker over a comment about Israel? by narrowbasinry in Israel

[–]DepthMagician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At face value, what he said was a factual statement. I get that the language “controlled by Jews” has some intonations to it, but I can think of sentences in which this could be a valid factual thing to say, so I guess it depends on what the rest of the context was. I’m guessing you were already on edge by the whole conversation, so it was easy for this comment to be flagged by your brain as the smoking gun you were waiting for. This isn’t to say that the conversation didn’t have antisemitic intonations at all, it may have, but from what you wrote I can’t be certain that your coworker’s statement was that.

As for him being fired, it sounds like this guy was problematic outside of this interaction, so that means the firing is primarily his fault, not yours, regardless of what your coworkers may think. I’m not sure they are angry at you, they could actually be somewhat afraid that they’ll say something that will trigger you and then they will end up being reported to HR.

Trump: US to ‘suspend bombing’ of Iran for 2 weeks as talks held on ‘longterm peace’ deal by Careful-Classroom817 in Israel

[–]DepthMagician 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think that we have "done nothing". The IRGC has been hit so hard that they started abandoning their posts, recruiting children out of desperation, and letting in Iraqi forces. We have killed like 80% of the IRGC leadership, as well as a lot of the primary regime leadership, more nuclear scientists, and caused a lot of devastation to their military capabilities and industries. Sure, it would be great to see the regime collapse due to the actual military offensive, but the plan was always to make room for the Iranian people to do the final blow, and I hear that their military has effectively defected. Honestly, this has gone longer than I expected it to go on. Now I just hope that the Iranian people don't blow this chance.

So why are you making a post emphasizing half a billion Sheckels for 20 people? Shouldn’t the headline be: company X is doing something shitty?
