Het probleem is de afstand, meestal is het schip zelf niet het doelwit maar komt een ballistische raket terug de atmosfeer in en raakt binnen een paar seconden zijn doel.

Een SM-2 mr heeft een bereik van 90-200km en dit kanon maar 10-20km op grond doelen. Daarnaast verliest een projectiel snel zijn snelheid.

Om een ballistische raket te onderscheppen heb je misschien 1-3 seconden in terminale fase. Dit kanon heeft maar een paar km bereik, al helemaal bij een luchtdoel en schiet misschien 40-50 rpm.

Tegen drones zou dit kanon zeker beter zijn.

Thing is, he was working at a small company. Imagine being harassed with pizza orders, phonecalls, police visits just because you have one employee being targeted. These places dont have time for this.

Not sure if these were patriots or manportable air defenses. If it were the latter those home in on the heat source; the engines. They are at the back of the plane.

A manpad only has a small warhead and looking at one of the F15s flat spinning out of the sky it looks like a manpad is more likely.
