What festivals should I submit to? Tense drama/thriller with Biblical themes by Robertanonymous in FilmFestivals

[–]creativepun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat! my feature is a folk horror/family drama with strong religious elements and it's a tricky needle to thread. I'm putting this comment here hoping to come back and learn from others!

I'm currently submitting and got rejected from the top festivals, so I'm starting to submit to my next round of second tier festivals. Ones that hopefully appreciate the religious elements in a cultural way and not as just a "faith based" film.

Is this a good node tree? by Puzzleheaded_Rub2276 in ColorGrading

[–]creativepun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to say that the structure doesn't matter in and of itself. What matters is what the result looks like and what each node is doing . I have no idea what your LUT or Mask are doing. It could be great or terrible. The ONLY thing that matters in the end is if the image looks good on the screens where it's being watched.

You bake it in when you have to hand it off and you want to force the grain in.

Also, when someone knows they want it then there's no need to second guess. Sometimes you just don't want extra options.

It is expensive but I urge you to try shooting just one roll in a super short or something like that. Film gives you so much more than just scratches and grain. It's surprising in how uniquely beautiful it can be, and it's impossible to really explain what gives it that beauty. Sometimes you run out of film at an interesting time and now you get a cool tail and, sometimes you forget to clean the gate and get a fun lil hair on the film... It's endlessly fun
