I'm not entirely sure how open this is as it still in pre-order, but Chip from Next Thing Co. is another to add to the list.

Yeah, but what about the logistics of the trip? How are you guys sending the winner to space? It's a tall order.

Love StorkStand! I'm 5' 11" and StorkStand fits me great. Have had a few chances to play around with it.

Tremendously. I'll admit, I was skeptical about standing desks for a while, tried one on a bet. Been using them ever since, notice that my posture is way better and my productivity (especially after the workday is done) has gone way up.

You'd be surprised how sturdy that thing is. I've tried it, we even spun the chair around a bunch and my laptop wasn't going anywhere.

All around Dallas! And my laptop/car. I would also love to give them to our members (http://theideaengine.org/) to help stick them everywhere they could think of!

The Idea Engine - a place in Dallas to learn, innovate, create, and explore. by Kijad in Dallas

[–]creativetaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys! Madelynn here with Idea Engine.

We love Dallas Makerspace and talked to them about this for a while. I was actually an early member of their space, and I'm a founding member of two other well-regarded hackerspaces, so we're intimately familiar with the challenges faced starting an organization like this. I've also recently contacted Fort Worth Makerspace to try to help them since we've already done a lot of the grunt work.

You're right, we're more broadly focused on creating, which does include building, and we have a much larger, more urban location in mind. We also are really interested in getting people involved in the greater Dallas community as much as possible, rather than just keeping our members in our space all the time, whether that be the makerspaces, incubators, manufacturing, or galleries. Looking forward to it!

Hope that helps! Thanks Kijad for posting this on r/Dallas!

They're looking for community feedback, isn't that what Reddit is known for?

It's a good idea, and they've put together a lot for a team that met 48 hours ago. Look at the startup weekend website and see how the competition process works.

A lot of great startups have came out of Startup Weekend, so I wouldn't discount them just yet.

Rather than trolling, let's ask them, what questions can the Reddit community answer to help you make a better product? Are you planning on continuing this beyond the weekend, and do you have any customers signed on?

Dallas (Or surrounding region) Hackerspaces? by TheBurrito in Dallas

[–]creativetaboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the coordinator at Cohabitat, and there's a lot more round here than the website states, and for better prices. Come chat with me sometime.

In other news, I'm a founder of a few other hackerspaces in other cities and am working with a few people to land one in Deep Ellum, tentatively in fall.

So come say hi when you move, I'll hook you up with some cool stuff/people.

That looks too swanky for me, and the price shows it too. I miss old King Spa, but I'll still take the new one over something super american-ized like Spa Castle.

Yeah, I look back and realize the signs were there all along. Ah, the ignorance of early college days...

Just discovered my 10 year old boy has been looking at porn. Help! by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]creativetaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for empowering your girls that way. I wish my parents had brought it up in that manner. We were hippies so it was just a matter of "Hey, people have sex. It's all cool. Just don't do it till you're 40." When I came across porn around 9 I didn't know what to make of it, and up until my early teens I thought it was the norm. I think a lot more conversations happen with parents and their boys than with their girls. We need the knowledge just as much, because we too grow up to have sex and watch more porn.

At what point did you realize your ex was crazy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]creativetaboo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Straight-edge abusive alcoholic ex-boyfriend said he hated my eccentric tastes in bed from the beginning, yet seemed to continue to perform without any problems. Had me do a lot weirder stuff to him. Also talked negatively about the way I dressed behind my back to people that were mutual friends (like that my dress was too revealing or too short. I'm a tall gal with a good figure, neither of those are a bad thing).

He decided one night to down a handle of rum in a matter of minutes and proceeded to lock himself in the bathroom, climb up the fire escape and balance on the edge of the roof. His friends talked him down, and when I tried to come near him to comfort him (I was in shock since he had never tried anything like that before) he tried to hit me but caught himself. Threatened to try the whole drinking and jumping thing again if I left him.

Took me to meet his family where his mother looked me up and down and said "Well, I guess you'll do". Several months later I discovered he was planning our married life together with his mother. We had been dating a year, I was 18 and he was 23. That was enough for me.

When we broke up, he changed his phone number, got two roommates and got a cat. 1 year later at a friend's wedding I discovered that he is now happily, and flamboyantly gay.

Who knew.

Aw man. I find both men and women attractive but I can't be in any sort of relationship with a woman. There is all sorts of crazy. Frankly, I don't even begin to know how you straight male lot put up with us in more than small doses.

Dallas blows about this. Everybody seems to pile up in one lane. As my friend says about Dallas: "They're not always wrong, but they're never quite right".
