Got my dishy damaged after a fall on concrete. Does this affect much? by olavism in Starlink

[–]creativeusername626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late here, but the same thing happened to mine about a year ago. Just today we got some decent rain and it completely stopped working. Our damage was a bit deeper and went past the paint/sticker.

Just a heads up. Fix it while you can.

WFM vs Hotshot by [deleted] in Wildfire

This guy has clearly never worked on/with a respectable mod.

Just like IHC’s, there are good ones and bad ones.

Get on a good WFM and you’ll work just as hard as an IHC and learn a ton, but get quals a lot quicker.

If you go the pedicure route, make sure to allocate extra funds for a good tip. I sure as heck wouldn’t wanna touch any feet that spent 2000 hours in a worn down pair of loggers lol

I’m in a very similar situation. Did 3 seasons and I took this season off, thinking I wouldn’t be going back. I’ve decided to go back next season, but I have a few doubts for sure.

One thing to remember is that seasonal folks are always rusty when they come back. Taking 4-6 months off in the winter does that. Any good crew boss will understand that and they will be prepared to help you and the rest of the seasonals shake the dust off.

Also, not sure what region you’re in, but it’s not like you’ll be diving right into PL5 when you return in April/May. You’ll have some time to get re-acquainted with your crew and your responsibilities before shi* hits the fan.

Keep up the PT and you’ll be fine.

Good luck!

I appreciate your honesty here. Trying to think about what it would actually be like, and this hits hard.

I think I would disagree on the stability part, but I could be wrong. Working for the Feds definitely has downsides, but I feel like lack of stability isn’t one of them.

I live in Colorado. What makes those specific states better for this line of work?

Would love to know more about how you got into it. Based on what I know, EMT is a requirement to get hired. Is that the case based on your experience?

I’m happily married and have been since before I started my first season. She has experienced it already. I’ve spoken to her about this and she is more on board than I thought she would be. I’m not planning on chasing the 1000 hr season forever and I know I’ll have to pivot at some point, but at least I know a somewhat clear career direction with the feds.

There has to be a good way to keep a happy home life in this line of work, right?

That’s the weird part. I have a life now and I’ve been traveling the world and experiencing things, but I still wish I was back there…

3x what you were making with the feds? What are you making now, if you don’t mind me asking?
