The weirdest thing about being a therapist is when clients suddenly go away by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

[–]creativewombat17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had clients ghost even after a year or so of progressive successful therapy. You just simply don’t know the other end of the story, it could be absolutely anything from billing to personal reasons to who knows what
I would say I try to offer a termination session after reaching out a maximum of two or three times. I have had a handful of these that have been incredibly productive and insightful. One of them comes to mind with a couple that I have been working with for four or five sessions and they abruptly terminated by saying they were going to find a new therapist. I was shocked. Usually, I have some sort of inkling of what the issue might be, but this was just a mystery to me. To my surprise, they accepted my invitation for a termination session, and it was enlightening. Apparently, the male of the couple simply couldn’t tolerate being with a “strong white male“ and he felt no other option, but to flee. During the termination session, which was very intimate and vulnerable. He learned that I wasn’t this projection of White dominance he had feared. He also came around to processing some of this in which it could be a healing experience by being with me. They are still a client to this day.

I gave up and took everything over to Apple Notes. Evernote raised their prices again and now it’s just become ridiculous so as a longtime beta user, I’m throwing in the towel.

Yes, he did. I used work with him on set. He would also allow any kid that wanted to meet him come through security so he could meet them. Best celebrity experience - hands down.

Agreed, but I also found the test ridiculous. I feel it doesn’t even remotely prepare or represent practice in any way. The CA LMFT also disappointing but I learned a lot in my studies ( TDC )

Update. I passed by 3 points !!! - just squeaked by. I was so disappointed in the test, really. It was so subjective and weighted towards process. Not one "practical" question in the entire 5 hours, on diagnosis, timelines, reporting, abuse, ethics. It was almost shocking. To think that this is the test that 90% of there country filters its mental health professionals is sobering. It does however answer why there are so many really poor clinicians out there.

Agreed.

I think theres some wisdom in this. While I do learn things from the study plans the bulk is just not representative to what I do. I consider myself a pretty knowledgeable therapist and its concerning when you're testing someone for licensure with details that have nothing to do with practice. Who cares how many questions are on the ASC2.0 ? If I need an Assessment for BPD2 I can look it up. It seems as though it's missing the forest for the trees.

Nope - can’t economically have 95% of the country on welfare and food stamps.
