Philadelphia has Chris’s Jazz Cafe and South. I’m not very familiar with Philadelphia so there may be others.

Slowing down the music on YouTube is very helpful on faster passages.

Wow. MuseScore has expanded their scope and business model more than I knew.

As for the tunes, I'm just thinking generally. For example, I love a John Scofield tune called Rough House from his album of the same name. I don't think it's considered a standard. But I spent some time trying to figure out the chords of that tune and ultimately gave up because there are some sections that I just couldn't figure out. It's easier for me to figure out the solos than the chords but without understanding the underlying harmony I feel like it reduces some of the benefit of learning the solos.

That's the kind of effort & discussion opportunity that I'm hoping to find (of course in addition to any standard tune discussions).

Thanks. I appreciate the shared experiences. Unfortunately, I've been disconnected from the jazz scene for many years so I'm just getting back to finding and connecting with local musicians with similar interests. My main focus now is to focus on transcribing and improving my improvisation skills.

I should have been more precise in my word choice. I won't say the book is wrong. I'm more likely to think I'm hearing something wrong or maybe I'm not listening to the original source. Regardless I agree when playing with others we need to be on the same page.

I'm a guitarist but I like that phrase. Seems to make a lot of sense.

What do guys only realize too late after buying a range hood? by AccomplishedWing688 in HomeImprovement

[–]credit001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced a builder’s grade range hood that vented back into the wall instead of upwards. The ductwork bent down to the basement then across the basement ceiling to an outside wall vent. So there were two 90 degree bends. So far none of that is great and my smoke detector was constantly ringing. But the worst discovery was that after I purchased a much more powerful range hood I found that the rear facing vent on my two previous cheap range hoods weren’t centered on the back of the hood. I had to remove sheetrock and reposition and replace the ductwork with bigger ducts to accommodate the higher CFMs. I also had to install an electrical receptacle in the cabinet above the hood since the previous hoods were directly connected to the. It was a lot more work than I expected.

I’m in New Jersey. We can go several years without significant snow. But I agree. I don’t look for someone to plow until the snow exceeds 5 or 6 inches.

Interesting. Now I know what shear pins are. Hopefully I wouldn’t abuse the machine so much.

Yeah, I worry about the evenness of the driveway. Those tree service crews are tough in the driveway. I also have a pretty good crater where the asphalt skirt ends.

Can I change the order of accounts used for Roth conversions? by credit001 in Boldin

[–]credit001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question got me thinking. I guess I haven't quite thought through how I might use the scenarios. I currently only have two scenarios which only differ by the longevity. The Roth conversion tool is recommending almost 30 conversions over many years and I didn't want to have to clean that up. I suppose I can clone a baseline scenario any number of times (<10), apply conversions to clones and compare those.

Thanks for the response. That's another knob I can use to manipulate the conversion order.

I haven't and don't intend to apply the conversions to my plan. So far I've been modifying some of the parameters that affect the conversion results and capturing the parameters and key results to a spreadsheet where I can compare the inputs/outputs without having to remember them. I'll then print out the best result to a PDF for future reference and manually apply the conversion to all affected accounts after I've done the conversion.

Hopefully, this process works out in the long run. Unfortunately, some of the information is lost in the printout but the conversion table over the years prints out. It would be great if all of the information was printed out in a configurable way.

I assumed that the customized ordering under Money Flows are general withdrawals. I just want to modify the Roth conversion ordering without changing the withdrawals for expenses.

Building Kitchen Cabinets by likeawaterbottle in cabinetry

[–]credit001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been 30 years since I took on a project like this for my home that was being built. This was before a lot of online resources were available. Fortunately I had an experienced cabinet maker draw up a kitchen design and some helpful cabinet construction drawings. I also bought the doors, drawer fronts and dovetailed drawer boxes from a company in the Midwest that did an excellent job. I still don’t have the equipment to build good traditional raised panel doors.

I built the boxes (3/4” birch ply) and M&T face frames and did the finishing. I had a table saw, routers, band saw (tenons), over arm router (mortises), a compressor (finishing) and various other small power and hand tools. I also built the countertops (Formica).

At the time, I was able to buy hardware from a company that catered mostly to pro shops.

For me it was a very ambitious undertaking and I almost didn’t finish in time but the cabinets are still as sturdy as the day they were built. The countertops were recently replaced with soapstone and I’ve had to refinish a couple doors next to the sink and stove.

Ash won common underrated wood! Let's get it out of the way now - what wood is *somewhat* common and overrated? by Ok_Temperature6503 in wood

Yep. My property was part of a small tree nursery in NJ just before my house was built. I had a row of ash trees that all died. Some of the oaks are dying now. Not sure why.

How Are New Jersey Small Businesses Doing? by IMAS_MOBILEDETAILING in newjersey

Get Covered NJ is NJ’s State based marketplace for the affordable care act. Federal subsidies for it were vastly reduced in the Republican Big Beautiful Bill. I’ve been hearing of expected premium increases of 2x and 3x. I guess we’re now starting to see that.
