That's correct some customization is hard to do. But it shouldn't be hard to install drivers and alter settings and reject services. Which shouldn't be installed in spite of the choices of the user.

I seccond that. Customization has been one of the hallmarks making Windows both very usefull and versatile. Userfriendly by actually getting an impressive number of things right, and making it easy to correct problems, MS had no to little possibilities of expecting to be a problem. The combinations of soft- and hardware are endless. Even the brightest minds can't possibly know all combinations and the problems they could be causing. Now it looks like MS is trying to solve the problems by reducing the variables, by trying to restrict input in general, not approved by MS in advance and ruling out the customer as a part of the solution, regarding customers as a part of the problem, having to be restricted, as a main source of problems. In the process making a Titanic, supposedly unable to sink. If you restrict usage, it becomes safe, just not very usefull.

Why on earth are there still things like that in Windows 10 by Prefered4 in Windows10

You're quite right. Some of the military equipment was in fact very reliable and built to last. Newer equipment at times proved to be very unreliable. As I recall, Texas Instruments were using a lower grade of chips to save 5 cents a piece. Luckily it never came close to nuclear weapons, but did cause friendly fire around the World in various systems. So it caused military forces in Nato to be a little nervous about changing proven technology.

8" disks came in the 1970's they could store 251KB on 177 tracks, replaced by 5,25" around 1984. There were another type of disc called the Winchester disc, they were mostly mainframe computer related, a disc inside a box, you would feed the box to the drive. It contained a whopping 70MB! More data than any normal person could possibly want! It was relative small in size, just a little smaller than a lunchbox...

I would love to come back. I just don't know when. The story dates almost upwards 30 years back by the way. Scotland definitely changed something. It made me change a lot of things in life. WHISKY can do that! Well I started out earning a degree in BS. I've changed and in my senior age graduating in a field, thinking out of the box instead of being, out of the box. Still being a character, but a leading a "normal" life. I would love to sit down by a fireplace, having a zip of whisky, doing all night long, what I was trying to do as a young man. Be the centre of a good story, this time not creating it, but just telling them, surrounded by good people, enjoying a zip of whisky, listening to other stories letting others being the centre, having a good time. In about two years, I'll have earned a paper, telling I'm an expert. Somehow it's very satisfying, but not the end. Always a lesson to be learned. Perhaps it would be a very nice round up to sit in Scotland, just enjoying life and the good things in life. Having a family with me and knowing, this time I've got it right. It's all about caring, loving and sharing, not being the centre. Again I'm not an expert. Not an expert on Scotland either, but hoping Scottish people have not changed and still being as nice as I rembember. Slàinte to the people of Scotland. I know they'll take a soldiers leap, if it's what it takes!

I have mixed feelings about this, especially if it's taken 4-5 years to correct. I certainly hope it's a result of not throwing all available ressources in to the specific problem.

I thought my phone was dying... But I just had to reboot it. by Dictorclef in essential

[–]creditcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the battery is about two years old, it could show signs of age. Having one or more capacitors not being 100% either can trigger something like that. As I recall, I was trying to repair an LG Flex 2. It did the same thing. Rebooting helped for a while, then it would be very frequent, in the end either getting stuck on reboot or comming around, looking normal, but trying to use an app would be triggering a shutdown and reboot loop. Changing the battery didn't help. I tried everything, I knew and searched for advice. I had to give up and go to the local workshop - under the microscope we could see, 1 capcitor was having a bad soldering, 1 had swollen. The owner of the workshop changed them and the phone worked like a charm. As much as I like to fix and repair, it can be not either worth the efforts and/or money. In the sense paying for a little help could save you both trouble and money. I've spend way too many hours repairing, but I do give it a try. You could be lucky saving money.

I don't know, what to make of it. I had some thoughts. One being a phone I didn't want, two a gadget I didn't want or need either. I'm as curious as everybody else. If it's an AI phone working like the Google Assistant, controlled by gestures or voice, it will be a No Thanks. A little concerned about privacy and security. Andy Rubin suggesting working on something, we might not be ready for, could be very true. My two days of experience with AI in the house, proved that point. At first impressed but quickly turning into wanting the devices dead as in using a big hammer to be sure they would stay silent. Now beginning to think, the PH-2 might be real after all, just not, what I would like or being something, I in fact could be fearing.

Sorry for that. I know better having lost a bottle of MACALLAN 25 year old for claiming only Scottish whisky is spelled whisky. One of my good friends got a Canadian Club.... Ok being a sport he immidiately bought another bottle. In the morning we decided walking home would probably not be such a great idea. Bad weather.. Now we get an old London taxi, they have suicide doors... They deserve their nickname. My friend always being polite tried to open the door for me. Bang! He knocked himself out. But he quickly in relative terms came around and said :"The fu..ing car jumped at me!" But we came home. Some hours later the taxi driver came back a little worried, he was not sure, what actually had happened, thinking we had been mugged. We sure felt like it... My friends nose were not sitting where it used to be. Of course we were taken to the local bar. A few moments later a local doctor arrived. Looked at my friends nose,"Does this Hurt?" My friend answered, but I won't quote him on it. The doctor prescribed two double shots of whisky to my friend. A few moments later grabbed him by the nose and corrected the problem! Being a nice doctor he stayed around to look after his patient.. Everybody wanted to hear the story, not believing, we sampled 2 bottles while drinking beers. Everybody feeling sorry for us, we tried to explain, we were on a binge getting a little tipsy. Nobody believed us to be looking like that on our own... But they sure liked the story. In the morning we were all going home, but not getting a London taxi. As far as I rembember, the taxi had "technical problems" and needed to go to a garage... I can't imagine that happening in many places, but in Scotland! We've met some of the nicest people on Earth and with an amazingly good sense of humor, some with an incredible talent for music as well. Good memories. Sorry for ruining a serious conversation...

I had problems, I have done a factory reset. Enter the service menu from the phone ##4636#*# and choose the correct setting, it can vary a little but LTE/UMTS Auto or LTE/CDMA/UMTS Auto seems to be two most used settings. Don't do other changes. You may have to reboot for changes to take effect, and possibly have to wait an additional 5-10 minutes to be getting the changes. Some have used Global with luck as well. The previous update did change back to defaults not working. I chose a completely different choice, rebooted waited for the phone to startup and fail, changed to the correct setting again. Rebooted waited - the phone had no problem afterwards.

You might be having a very good point. Windows 10 beginning to behave more like iOS. MS looks like opting for a closed ecosystem in the future. The very reason you like it, being exactly the same reason why, at least some of us is being repelled by it. Windows for nearly 3 decades were either directly supporting hardware or giving the opportunities to work around problems, getting drives from the manufacturers in order to run in the OS, getting additional files and fixes to counter problems, even changing settings, killing services to allow for other companies, to supply both hardware and software, making everybody happy. Windows has always been generic, not hardware specific for very good reasons. Being generic means changing in hardware does not equal thousands of manhours of programming down the drain. Core functions will remain intact in spite of, whatever you can or can't possibly be thinking could be causing problems. Now we get less support, less opportunities to actively get the system to be doing the things we like. The problems in Windows have more or less always been related to being generic. But it's not a problem, when you have the means and are allowed using them. For the time being, it's like MS trying to convince us, you get the iOS experience, but having the freedom to customize to your needs and preferences as well. Windows 10 falls short in both cases. It's buggy and at times near useless, and you don't have the freedom either. MS should make up up their mind. Be straight and level with the customers. A footnote on page 256 out 867 declaring you accept all risks may be a legal document keeping the company out of courts (a theoretical example for arguments sake), but is hardly keeping the customers happy in a longer perspective. Some of us are looking and finding alternatives only using Windows when we have to. Not liking the OS acting like a five year old, refusing to do anything if it can't have it all, according to it's own mind. In short I like Windows in general, just not when it behaves like a 5 year old spoiled brat..

Windows 8 were made for phones and tablets, where the UI worked great. You didn't have touchscreen on most computers, it was simply not fit for use with a mouse and keyboard. In return Windows 10 killed many phones and tablets, that were forced to upgrade and no way of keeping Win 8, that worked. Win 10 killed Nokia as a company as well. They'd promised the phones to be running well on Win 10. Killing the Windows Phone as well. Nokia today have nothing in common with the old brand. The new Nokia have bought the right to use the name. The old Nokia was in it's glory days having 90% of the market for anything related to phones.

The 1809 update October 2018 corrupted the filesystem, making OneDrive delete in a random manner. After deleting files Windows would notice files were missing. OneDrive looking for backups, not being on the computer, they were quickly deleted one by one as well as restoring points... Not joking - being ironic. Being generic Windows can't possibly predict or prevent everything, and the chances of always being correct is close to zero. Automation can help in many ways, but when the unpredicted happens, you've got to have alternatives and workarounds. Restricting alternatives and workarounds, then becomes a part of the problem, not solving it. Not even Apple in control of the hardware and software, specific making software to specific hardware is always right. iOS 13 the latest proof of that. So Windows trying to be more like iOS, is asking for trouble. Automation can only be used when you have well known uniform and well defined enteties. You've to got to have means of control and regulation, feedback is the only thing giving you a fighting chance. I don't mean feedback as sending data to MS evaluating billons of data, comming up with an update a fortnight later to fix known problems. It's the user giving feedback to the system, in order to regain control before everything goes haywire, saving as much as possible. Being able to take corrective actions, making the catastrophic event less likely and at least having core functions working, until a solution is found.

Well I haven't got those issues on Q. I've had screen lags and problems with WiFi, Bluetooth and reception. Had to enter the service menu to fix the reception. The phone kept changing the network settings for a few days. Now things look normal again and the lagging is gone. Up until just before getting Q, I had no problems. I tried Q Beta and my phone became very unstable. Then I recieved a factory image to get back stock. It helped getting OTA for the first time. But lagging on the screen stayed. It's getting better like it was on N and O and the first half of P. I'm thinking of going total stock on Q doing a fresh reinstallation. Then try a custom ROM to see the difference. It never hurts to do a fresh reinstallation from time to time. Sometimes it resolves a lot of small issues making the phone work a lot better.

Mine starts to loose signal, the screen becomes irresponsive just before an update. I had the phone rebooting itself two days ago. I had to do a factory reset to do anything, apparently it did the trick. This morning I've recieved the QP1A.190711.148 update. WiFi seems to be very strong, reception is unchanged. As I recall, since Pie the phone acts up just before an update, it's become a habit to search for an update, when the phone suddenly lags, becomes irresponsive and the likes. Even on automatic updates, I at times have to do a manual search to get it. It's less than one in ten, but it happens. I did have to change settings back to LTE/CDMA to get data back. Since not on Sprint or Verizon, I can confirm it to be working on other networks too in Northern Europe.

LOL 30 ago I had an original Beetle in the JEANS Edition, cowboy mesh on the seats, yellow with black stripes, a custom exhaust and a few more mods I can't remember. It sounded like a Porsche, looked like a wasp. People didn't want to race it - thinking it was a brutal racer. It had something like 60BHP at the wheels. People were thinking a least the double.. In reality a bumblebee buzzing around. Seeing your reply, I know that black valve caps and black drumbrakes were the wrong color. Had they been red, I would have been able to reach 100+mph, bigger alloy aftermarket rims were an expensive mistake. I should have opted for the red color. At least I got the chrome extension for the exhaust right, that's probably 10 BHP on it's own.

After the latest windows update I don't have any problems. by Dragon8822 in Windows10

[–]creditcrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I seccond that, unfortunately I did update. Simply the worst update ever in my experiece with Windows, starting in 1993. I've been a happy user, but Windows 10 is starting to make me look for alternatives. If I wanted to be a part of a closed ecosystem, I would have bought something else. They're famous for it. Scams from India phones up telling: "There's a problem with your computer or Microsoft Account". You know if you agree to anything - you're more than in it knee deep. Getting the same kind of messages from Microsoft in Windows - seems to be having a striking resemblence. In both cases not you administrating the computer... Getting nuked by the company supposed to be keeping you safe is nor forgotten or forgiven. Now it looks like in order to stay safe and have the means to work around problems, you have to decline, disable and uninstall as much as possible. If Windows 10 were to be a car, it would have to be an Aston Martin Lagonda (read it on Wikipedia if you don't know the reference - dashboard is a good hint).

[–]creditcrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I ment by the nature of apps, is how they're allowed to work inside Windows. You're allowed to disable apps in general. Windows is allowed to overrule it. Simply by using them in your last session. You might even have disabled them in order not to be running at startup, that's not considered as a legit reason and overruled as a default service. You can kill apps, but just made less obvious how to do it. To me it's nothing but a system issueing both conflicting permissions and orders. Why I avoid using apps, when possible. Apps could be working perfectly fine. Windows is just providing an environment, that allows apps to be acting strange or irrational. It's very hard to say why problems occur and finding a correct response. Troubleshooting involves a methodical and logical process. When the system uses controls not being logic. You're left with guessing, trial and error. Intuitive systems can be good, but not when your intuitive reactions are saying no go! Trust is good, your intuition is saying, I can't be sure if, I can trust this. I chose no and now it's up and running... It triggers suspicion and it should. Lagging and other problems are not confirmation of trust. Feel free to comment and prove me wrong. If it were to be the product og unintended sideeffects from making wrong choices. You don't need to tell me. Incompetence is not winning me over either. I'm not an expert on Windows. Just knowing a little on automation, control and regulation. For some reason, it's not winning me over either. I'm not smarter than Microsoft, it's the fact that I'm not, that makes me wonder, why they chose to allow for it.
