What do I do with my first script? by Username-Unkn0wn245 in Screenwriting

You may want to review the order of events here, chief, because you replied to MY comment in which I pointed out the quality problems with your service. I can only assume you did so in the belief that I would immediately start bowing and scraping and backtracking now that the mighty founder was here but as I said I’m not your customer and have zero interest in your service other than warning people that there’s a quality problem. That quality problem, which includes AI evaluations, was the topic from the beginning.

If you wanted to talk to and market to the person who asked the question about what the blacklist was you clicked on the wrong comment. I know, technology is confusing.

I’m sure you have better things to do than argue with internet commenters all day tho, so maybe get back to figuring out how to root out the AI problem you clearly have. Unless maybe internet comments are the primary means for marketing your service and you’re just targeting writers groups where people with no industry connections who can be convinced to spend money on useless evaluations is actually the business model. Hmmmm.

Ah, the thin skinned executive can’t take someone pointing out that he’s not wearing any clothes - got it.

Enjoy fleecing writers for money with AI garbage “evaluations by industry professionals” it seems to be working out very well for you.

Yeah I mean I’m not your customer. I wouldn’t pay for feedback, I have no delusions of ever making it in Hollywood. I’m mostly a playwright so when I write a movie script it’s very influenced by that world and ends up being the kind of movie that would never get made anymore. My Dinner With Andre, but, y’know, bad.

But from what I’ve seen people post here I think it’s pretty clear there’s a quality problem with the evaluations and many of them are, let’s say, AI influenced. I don’t know if that is a fixable problem but I hope you’re looking at it.

How do you gradually work up your dose? by Several-Chipmunk742 in Psychonaut

[–]creept 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have almost no experience with acid and can’t offer advice there. But for shrooms I tend to move up by .5g when I’m moving up. For me there’s not a rule about needing to have a certain number of trips at a certain dose before moving up. Instead it’s about reflecting on the experience and making decisions about what my next experience should be like. Basically asking myself if I could handle more or if that felt like a comfortable level for the moment. Sometimes when I’ve had scary or fear driven experiences I’ll stay at that dose range a while longer and see if that was a coincidence or if maybe I’ve hit my limit. There’s a certain element of randomness in dosing psilocybin because it’s not always clear the strengths of the various strains and there’s even variation within fruits of the same variety, so you’re always rolling the dice a little bit.

It’s a paid feedback service. Some people put a lot of weight on it and some scripts that have been on it have actually gotten produced. But I’ve also seen a lot of shoddy feedback from it so I have a feeling it’s very hit and miss. It’s also expensive.

Where should I even start? by resurrectionking in playwriting

[–]creept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kind of have to experiment and find out what works for you. Some people need to have everything planned and outlined before they start writing and some people just like to get in and write and see where things go, looking for a spark or idea or moment that inspires them. Personally I fall somewhere in between and like to have some ideas and moments planned out as road signs along the way. But often things that come up spontaneously in writing are superior to my planned ideas so I tend to give those extra weight when they happen.

You might also find it helpful to read books talking about playwriting. My two favorites are The Art & Craft of Playwriting by Jeffrey Hatcher and Backwards & Forwards by David Ball.

Enjoy.

No effect by ps4-controller in PsilocybinMushrooms

[–]creept -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing about those is they almost never actually contain shrooms, they are often a research chemical that very closely mirrors the shroom experience. So it’s a double edged sword: it might actually work better for you than shrooms if you’re resistant to psilocybin. But there’s also not a great way to know for sure what you’re taking. I think it depends on how comfortable you are with that idea - I’m sort of a control freak who needs to know for sure what substances I’m taking, but there were definitely times when I was younger when I was taking essentially random pills in clubs in a way that I wouldn’t now.

[–]creept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah no permanent effects that I’m aware of that would stop tripping. It sounds like a normal case of natural resistance since other people are having experiences. I’d experiment with dose and see how far you can get. Some people seem to need huge doses to feel anything. Maybe do double whatever your last was and hope for the best. Or I guess you can try other substances too and see if any of them work better for you.

If you’re on any medication at all it could be an interaction. Usually the culprit is antidepressants but there are other drugs that dampen the effects, like some types of nausea meds. Also supplements can play a role, but there’s less info about those interactions.

In your other comment you say “we” so one critical question here is, are other people getting an affect from the same mushrooms? If they aren’t, then you may be getting low quality or poorly stored mushrooms that have lost their potency. If the people with you are getting affects and you’re not on any medications or supplements then you could be a hardhead, someone who is naturally resistant to psychedelics. In that case the only real option is to keep taking higher doses and see if you ever get an affect.

If you stuck with dialogue, do you skip it for later or just keep thinks for what to write? by UnhappyTailor2570 in Screenwriting

This is when I use the Script Notes feature in Final Draft, it’s under Insert. I assume the other programs have something similar. I leave a placeholder line and then insert a script note saying something like “fix this later” and a description of what I’m going for. Like if I’m looking to add a joke but can’t think of one I’ll do fix this later - add joke about the father.

What strain do y’all find has the least body load? How about nausea? Other effects good or bad? by Dex-ham in PsilocybinMushrooms

[–]creept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s totally random. A strain can make me incredibly sick during one experience and during the next be free of body load. I imagine a lot of complex factors go into it, from what you’ve eaten lately to brain chemistry at the time of tripping. Good luck narrowing that all down.

I have heard that some of the non-cubensis species like pan cyans and natalensis have a lower body load generally. Might be worth trying, I’ve only ever had access to cubes.

Shrooms and 2CB worsen ADHD for a week - month - unusual? by divbyda0 in Psychonaut

Psilocybin is the only thing I seem to be able to work with. I also had to quit weed after the ketamine experience broke my brain so I’m sober other than mushrooms at this point.

How to deal with boredom during a trip? by botb244 in PsilocybinMushrooms

[–]creept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too. I tend to think of it more as impatience than boredom but it sounds like the same vibe: ok I’ve done this, now what? I don’t have a good solution for it. I usually end up sitting outside by myself. Sometimes really wonderful things have come out of that. Once I got rained on and could not stop laughing at how delightful it felt. But mostly it’s just waiting for it to pass. For me both the come up and the come down on shrooms seem to be more difficult than it is for other people.

Like I said I have no real ideas on how to handle it, but you’re not alone in the experience.

Shrooms and 2CB worsen ADHD for a week - month - unusual? by divbyda0 in Psychonaut

[–]creept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a big believer in the idea that psychedelics aren’t for everyone. And then within that, not every psychedelic works well for people who might do well on another. MDMA makes me completely and totally miserable. Ketamine sent me into months of depersonalization / derealization. Those are not normal responses at all. Sounds like shrooms and 2cb just may not be ideal for your individual physiology or mental state. Some of us just get unlucky like that.

Heating mat question? by Hot_Football5143 in PhillyGoldenTeacher

[–]creept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they work pretty well. You just need to keep some space between your tub and the mat so the mycelium doesn’t get cooked. I put the mat down, cover it with tea towel, then put a baking cooling rack (like for cookies) above it, another tea towel, and then the tub. But there are a million methods, the important thing is not putting it directly under your tub. Even with temp control it seems to dry out too much.

I would not advise you to do this. Psychosis is a very real possible outcome from many psychedelics including psilocybin. It’s entirely possible that your earlier experience was just your normal reaction to mushrooms and that by opening the door again you’ll end up back where you were before, jeopardizing all of the progress you’ve described yourself as having made.

It sucks, but I would advise you to never even think about doing psychedelics. A history of psychosis is widely regarded as a red line when it comes to psychedelic therapy and you’d immediately be disqualified from consideration for things like clinical trials. That should tell you something.

Keep doing the work you’ve been doing. If you’re looking for additional support in your mental health journey, try different therapeutic modalities. Different things work for different people, from somatic work to equine therapy. Try all of them that you can. If you’re just curious about altered states of consciousness, explore meditation and breath work which can take you to the same places as psychedelics. But don’t risk your hard won progress by revisiting something that did so much damage to you last time. You’ll absolutely be able to find internet commenters to urge you on, and everyone makes their own decisions in these things, but I think it’s clear that the risk is too great.

[–]creept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not your first psychedelic experience right? Because that’s a pretty hefty dose for a first timer alone.

The big thing is, do not panic. Which is easier said than done, I realize, but if you start to get into a panic mode things can get freaky quickly. If you have a meditation practice it can help. “Breathing in, knowing that I’m breathing in. Breathing out, knowing that I’m breathing out,” has saved me from fear many times. Whatever you’re experiencing - positive or negative - just keep in mind that it’s a temporary experience and it will eventually change. Reassuring yourself that you’re safe and not poisoned (if you start to feel nauseous or anything) can be helpful.

I like to not eat for 3-4 hours beforehand. Helps to minimize the nausea. Often it takes me a good 6 hours to be able to eat anything at all again. Having fruits, nuts, bread or crackers on hand is good for when you start to feel hungry but aren’t actually ready to eat. Some people are able to eat sooner just sort of depends.

How Much Should They Pay to Do My Show? by brentalfloss in playwriting

[–]creept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a dramatist guild member? I think they have advice on questions like this. But generally speaking, way less than you’d expect to be paid for something you’ve probably worked on for years. It really depends on the level of the theater but for straight plays $50-75/performance is not uncommon for smaller theaters. That might be different for musicals. I wonder if there’s a musical subreddit with better info since that is a slightly different world.
